Tinting question for 50 and older....

Abe, yes it is, but 90% isn't noticeable. It gets too hot for me to worry about that.

on the front windshield my tint is 90% which is basically clear, no night vision impact, side & back windows are at 30% which blocks out a fiat bit but well within legal, backing up not an issue with camera and if I need more side vision I lower the window for a minute which rarely occurs. As to age in my 60s.

Character
Some.vehicles just look.like they should be tinted. My mystic blue 545 looks perfect woth the M Rims and dark tint. The 991 and wrangler not so much. Actually, I'm thinking I'll be a trendsetter with my "albinoed" out plat silver. With the clear side markers, tail lights and bumper plugs painted to match there is a monochromatic color schema that is truly striking in person. Black would not fit and even though I live in Florida does anyone actually leave these to bake in the sun ?

Police
Your right about police, always roll your window all the way down and tell them before you go routing through the glove box. Also make sure radar is turned off and not beeping reminding them that you planned on speeding and took precautions.
QUOTE=mdrobc1213;14845377]AM similar to you and just transitioned to "need reading glasses" age after years of excellent vision post PRK surgery. Night vision is fine for me but I do not like "limo" look tint especially at night. Also seems to draw unwanted attention from police types and while it looks great on show cars must agree and in magazines. I always go with a 35% tint on all of my cars and put the same on the rest of those in our garage. Is enough for me to block out a good portion of the heat (use ceramic - a bit more expensive tho) while still giving it a classy look also. Usually am able to blend things nicely even with factory rear tinted glass now almost standard on most SUVs. Here are a few shots....good luck!

I stopped tinting the windows on my cars back in the 1990s.
I’m certainly not opposed to it, and I know the new tinting products have come a long way since the ‘90s.
I simply prefer the “au naturale” look.

I removed my tint, my Dad would love to drive my car, and at times he had hard time seeing the road when turning. It was also due to the area having less street lights. Always check with your state law on how much tint is legal. Light tinting should be fine.

50% tint
50% oblique view
35% tint
I say got for a lighter tint. I drove a new Yukon on a 7 hour trip in July and the sun beating on my arm was uncomfortable. While on vacation I called for an appointment for tinting the day I returned. Going for 35% (allowing only 35% of light in) is great for heat blocking but does make side visibility much more difficult at night. The car appearance does look better with some tint so I decided on a 50% tint for my new GTS. My prior 993 has 35% tint.

Forgot to mention that photos of VooDoo with 50% tint were on an overcast day while the 993 photo was under full sun. In sunlight the 50% tint is a little lighter and you can see into the car more easily. Side vision at night with the 50% tint is so much easier for me. Age 51.

Still is. Along with tinting the drivers and front passenger windows. Doesn't mean a lot of owners don't try to stretch the envelope with lighter tints on those windows compared to the side (behind driver & front passenger) and back windows.
