Default Question regarding 991.2 model transition to 992s

Signs are pointing toward the 992 being released as a MY 2019 edition. If that is in fact the circumstance, do all 991.2 cars get replaced with their 992 variants at the same time? Or? I am trying to decide between pulling the trigger on a Targa 4S now or in a year. My preference would be in a year to allow any bugs in the top actuating mechanism to be sorted out, but that may not be an option.

Thanks in advance.

Typically not. Porsche generally releases the C2 and C4 first, followed by C2S and C4S, then Targas, GTS, and Turbos.

Just my 2 cents, unless you are dead set on the 992 for whatever reason, I would try and find a suitable 991.2 Targa4S if I was in your shoes

Life is short and there will always be something newer down the pipeline. Also the 992 spy shots are fairly polarizing to date, especially with the interior re-design

I would look into if that is something that appeals to you or not and make a decision based on that...and Dennis is spot on that a Targa 4S would not be part of the initial 992 release if following custom

Pretty sure 997 launch cars were black, PCCB C2S coupe.

Don’t wait. Even a 996 is fantastic. You’re missing out.

also, the targa design is not new with the #2 cars. They haven’t changed anything in the top mechanism since the #1 Targas. The only difference is people with the #1 cars use their targas more to internationally hear the outside and #2 owners keep it closed...

Sigh... one ardent 991.1 (NA) fan's opinion

Can't go wrong with either a 991.1 Targa or 991.2, I consider all of us fortunate if we are able to have a 911 in the garage. The turbo'd 3.0L engines are amazing in their own right IMO, just as the 3.4/3.8 991.1 engines are awesome in a different way.

I am interested in the 991.2, which is why I am asking the question - I want to get a 2019 991.2 edition Targa 4S and was concerned the only option for a MY 2019 would be a 992. The pics I have seen of the 992 leave me a bit underwhelmed.

Then only one logical step. Jump on a 991.2 Targa, I did the same for my C4 GTS especially knowing that i wanted a factory order. Prefer the analog dials over digital dash, and like the current interior better. Exterior pics are not as flattering either but I suspect that could grow on a person.
However also knowing that even if I wanted a 992, the GTS variant was going to be a few years out.

I keep my .2 down. It does sound good above 5000 rpm. In sport plus its got a good sound. My kid still prefers the 997s though!

Nice. I thought they were C2.

In any case, Porsche doesn’t release all the variants at once.

I have seen nothing confirmed by Porsche or anyone i know even hint at a soon arrival of a 992. The T is just arriving and the Gt3RS is on deck . will they make a speedster .. who knows. Geneva is coming up and this far no mention of the 992 being there . After it's been unmasked , it then gets tested as its usually released in Europe a few months in advance of North America So at this point we are just guessing .

Earliest it will arrive is 2019 MY (late this year). Latest will be 2020 MY (about a year to a year and a half from now). Whether that will bother you is up to you.

I don't think there will be a 2019 991.2. I'd go for the 2018 991.2 Targa. New allocations are nearly impossible to get so you would most likely have to get one off the lot.
