Default Would you sell your 991 in Bring a Trailer?

I usually use a dealer on consignment when I want to sell a car. I am intrigued by Bring a Trailer. Anyone has experience selling their 991 over there? Would that be better than doing a private sale?
Thanks

I sold a GT4 there, and it was a good experience—though it is a very focused crowd. I did so after thinking a Rennlister was crazy for selling his GT4 on BaT, only to see it do very well. Turns out the GT4 is something of a hero car on BaT, and looks like strong value against $60-80k 993s with 50,000-100,000 miles. However, I am not sure I would try to sell a 991 Carrera-line car unless there was something very special about it (PTS might not even be enough). Upside to BaT is you've got a lot of really good eyeballs with wherewithal. Downside to BaT is the eyeballs are super discerning and generally interested in older cars rather than new ones.

The best people to ask are BaT themselves. I've found them very responsive, and they know their market better than anyone here.

BaT is also very well moderated. The typical RL BS is not tolerated in their classifieds.

Come to think of it, you don't have a lot to lose. Submit your car, and let them decide if there's a good chance it will sell. Set a realistic reserve, and the worst is you lose some time and $99.

One thing I will say for BaT is it probably does a better job of determining market price than any other venue I can think of. I've been amazed by some of the prices generated there, with this one standing out to me as a 914 six conversion (and with not that great an engine...):

There are some even more remarkable non-Porsche results—cars that are often hard to find an audience for.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like it is a nicer alternate than what I have been doing

I've had good luck with eBay. No, seriously, you get great exposure and I usually sell the car directly to the buyer (who found on it on eBay) although a few have preferred the "security" of completing the deal through the site. Downside is that now that I've sold a few, they charge me $150 for the listing.

BaT is a great forum for selling unique and desirable cars like air-cooled Porsches, although a few 996 and even 986 have done surprisingly well. I can't remember ever seeing a 991 on it. They don't like "common" cars, and something that is still in production and available new generally doesn't qualify as uncommon.

Still though, you should check with them. Be prepared for a requirement of a low reserve.

I looked into BaT when I sold my 993. I was surprised at the low reserve they insisted on: $30K IIRC.

I can also highly recommend Cars.com. I listed my 2017 Cayenne GTS for sale on both eBay and Cars.com. Sold it in two weeks. Buyer came from Cars.com (who was located in Oklahoma...I'm in Northern Virginia). More importantly, I had nearly a dozen inquiries from Cars.com over that 2 week period, and not a single one from eBay. Good luck!

I doubt they would take it. It’s mainly for unusual cars.

I did a search on BaT and looking for "991" did not bring up any past auctions - maybe you could be the first one???

Never hurts to try. Worst case is they say no.

I suspect it'll be more likely to be accepted if it's a GT3/RS/911-50/Club Coupe/etc -OR- a Carrera/S/GTS with a manual gearbox and other sporting equipment interesting to that crowd. In other words, an unusual car. On the other hand, they have an auction going on an XJS V12 with a slush box right now...

Not so on the 911-50 Pete. I tried twice - they rejected my car both times. "Not appropriate for our site" was their logic.

So I sold it without them.

Then I sold my Boxster Spyder without them. "Not appropriate for their site" was my logic.

Interesting. Was this before or after the first GT4 went through BaT? Fwiw, I don't think the BaT crowd would be all that interested in most 991s. BaT folk sure seems to be interested in Boxster Spyders, GT4s, 996s, 997s, GT2s, GT3s, etc...

Huh. Wouldn't have thought it, given the interest in other Porsches there. Maybe the 991's time is "yet to come."
