Anyone know if 718 is any quieter on the highway than the 991?
I believe it’s quite a bit louder.

How about the Panamera? Is it noticeably quieter than the 911? I live 250 miles from closest P car dealer.

Coming from someone who already finds the 991 too quiet on the highway (I find the 991.1 too quiet, which means I find the 991.2 way way too quiet), yes, the Panny will be certainly quieter. As will the Macan.

The OP clearly does, asking for "cool" cars only.

I have GT Silver on my .2 but I wish it was Yellow, Red or Sapphire blue...should have chosen my color more carefully. GT silver is quite beautiful in the sunshine and does hide dirt well.

Quiet highway cruiser and 911 do not come to mind for me. Perhaps it is our roads but tire noise is loud IMO in my 911. Doesn't bother me too much but you did mention it.

Rode around a little bit in the V8 Panamera at PSDS in Alabama. I found it very comfortable with a nice exhaust rumble. If I were looking for a sporty but comfortable cruiser I would definitely give it a closer look.

Good luck with your choice.

Hi Young Turk,

I own a 2017 Panamera 4 and have done over 14k miles in it since last March.

It's a fantastic 4 seat/5 door GT sports saloon. However, I miss my previous car, a 991.1 C2, too much! So have ordered a new 991.2 Carrera T to replace the Panamera.
Clearly they are different cars, but my heart called me back to the 911 family!

Cheers,

Simon

P.S. Yes, the Panamera is quieter and more refined than the 911, with better sound proofing, as you'd expect.

Thanks to all who have replied so far. I hope to learn more.

Wing Commander - thank you. I’m sure I too will miss my 991 no matter whether I get the 5 Series or the Panamera. And, when I do miss driving a Porsche sports car, I can always drive my (son's) 987.2 Cayman.

You may miss the 991 less if you replace it with a Panamera, rather than a 5-Series.

In Sport or Sport Plus mode on country roads, the Panamera feels surprising sporty and compact. I went for air suspension with PASM and RAS and Sport Chrono.

If the 718 Cayman is indeed noisier than a 991, as some posters have said, then it is down to a 540i/M550i and a Panamera.

The primary reason for getting rid of my old Jag [XKR] was the dealer. Luckily if my Porsche dealer pulls anything there plenty of great indy shops near me.

Yes. It is MUCH quieter than a 911 I had a new base model as a loaner for nearly a week. It is a superb daily driver with the air suspension. The base was JUST a tad underpowered, would suggest the S is you can swing it.

It is a big, long car. Longer than my Cayenne. But not much more rear leg room.

Agreed, it drives like a Porsche. No ifs, ands or buts.

Was discussing this with a friend last night.... Even a Base Cayenne loaner feels just like you'd think an SUV version of a 911 would feel.

Ruled that out because the exterior styling is too gaudy for my tastes.
