Default Measuring PCCB Rotor Life

Hello, I am currently trying to figure out how to measure the remaining PCCB rotor lift on my 991 TTS. I pulled the details from the manual and it indicates that a Carboteq Laser indicator is required but on all my previous cars with CCM rotors I would weigh them and the life was based on the remaining weight. My first thought is that I would purchase the tool but at $6K it is a bit pricey. Has anyone come up with a DIY method of testing other than using this special tool?

I thought it was necessary to measure carbon content in the rotor to determine wear. I believe there are some visual indicators that show when a rotor has been exposed to excessive heat, but that’s the only visual indicator.

I took off the rotors to weigh them but the weight was greater before and after cleaning the cooling vanes.

Does the hardware need to be removed?
