That 993...so good!

Did the Targa Newfoundland in the early 2000s—and it was maybe the best car nut week of my life to date. I can only imagine the party y'all throw...

I felt MC would have been better of with the Dunlops as they are a bit stickier early on and run a bit better in the wet (IMHO).

Another point to keep in mind is most entrants have the benefit of the very, very good ADVAN 050s..........(These are fantastic on the 997II GT3).

Food for thought - good luck with 911, looks fantastic.
JW finally got the Viper ACR running with reliability. That's good. A win for him was over due I thought. I agree the SportMaxx would have been better than the MPSC2 in the damp/wet. As you probably know in NZ Targa we have a control tyre which is a PITA although you can run tyres of choice now but have penalty points or are restricted to less set across the event. Not sure if they are selling the RE 71R in Australia (they arent here in NZ unfortunately!) but that is also another very good tyre for the GT4 and older GT3. Yokohama have some great product these days. I use the AD08R as a fast road tyre on the Renault RS275 and the 048 and 050 are a great track tyre but expensive down this way...

Peter. We share the same taste in cars. Picture in my office attached, includes Spark 1:18 of RUF CTR from 1986. Has to be my all time favorite 911 bar none. Shame that ship has sailed!

We do indeed. I scribbled a 13-page story on 3~ months and 2,500 miles in CTR001 years ago. Still my favorite 911 (997 RS 4.0 a slightly distant second). The issue is still available if you never saw it...

You really need to try a supercharged 993, which is the next best thing to a CTR in the world of late air-cooled 911s. Oh, the sounds and powerband predictability....

Pete. Im jealous! Ill go hunt out that edition. CTR001 sure has some miles on her by now?! I have seat time in a factory VIN RUF BTR2 993 but was a little disappointed. It had soft shocks and a large single turbo with lag for Africa. When it lit up the nose pointed towards the sky. The EKS in that car was a strange fish also but you do get used to it. A supercharger for my 993 was always on the cards but never happened. I think that would have worked better as you say...

I have a 991.2 GTS (2017) what ever modified brake cooling Porsche uses with this package is not nearly enough for track use. Street use its fine. I am talking with a few about some sort of better brake cooling for these cars that see the track.

I see Suncoast have just released the Girodisc 350mm F+R brake upgrade package for the 991.2 base Carrera.

Now if we had a decent pad (Ferodo DS1.11 or RT RE10) with Castrol SRF I should think this sufficient to work with a basic specced base MT 991.2 on Cup2 with lightweight LiOn type battery (assumes rotor and battery weight helps reduce weight to say 1395kg). I will probably give this a go when the pad range expands.

In theory a 350x32 Girodisc slotted rotor with good pad and fluid should be enough to stop a 1400kg 911 given the previous generation 997.2 Turbo was similarly equipped (and somewhat heavier)?

Macca sounds about right - I'm running a S power kit in sprints and don't run out of brakes (RBF600, RSL29, 350x330mm, six pot, four pot) - I think mdrums is running long sessions.
