991.1 Battery Replacement DIY
#496
I do all the time instead of driving a sports car in the city in bumper to bumper traffic.
I am not suffering from battery failure paranoia, and I'd worry far more about coolant pumps failing or coolant leaks. I already had the latter at very low mileage that I fixed myself. A battery failure...who cares...no big deal.

Installed the Interstate MTX-48 H6 today, easy. Thanks for the DIY!
My torx bolts for the air compressor holder were a different size though from the DIY tutorial (mine were T-30).
Also, the nut that goes on the bracket at the back of the firewall was a little tricky, I thought I had it tightened down but then the bracket was still loose and would have made a ton of noise. I notice the stud it goes onto it painted body color so I think it just bound up on the paint a bit and I had to keep forcing it to get tighter. Maybe used more threads than the previous battery due to width or just orientation? I don't think there was a spacer or anything on that stud but let me know if I'm mistaken.

Simply curious, I got my Interstate MTX-48 H6 battery from Costco and it was vented from both sides with no plug for the side that is not connected to the venting tube in the car. I had to remove the plug in the old Porsche battery and install it in the new battery to avoid venting in the frunk compartment. Did yours came with a plug?

At least on my 2013 991.1 Carrera S, there is a venting tube that routes battery vapors outside the car. It's a small black tube with an angled adaptor that plugs in the top of the battery side. If you have it, it's important that it's connected and the hole in the battery other side plugged. Battery vapors are dangerous in closed spaces.

I replaced my original Banner battery today with the Duracell 12V 49 Ultra Platinum 48 (SLI49AGM) purchased from BatteriesPlus. There was a 10% off discount to buy online and pick-up in store. I did not use a tender nor did I reset the ecm. I did make it a point to keep the elapsed time between the old and new battery connection to a minimum, so I estimate that the car was without power for less than a minute. I also cleaned up the battery tray, albeit it was not that dirty. All presets were retained, and it appears that everything is functioning properly. But more importantly, engine start-up is sweet again! I was experiencing the auto stop/start gremlin as well as slow starts. And finally, there just was not enough juice this morning to get the engine started.

99.1 Battery Replacement
Thinking about replacing my battery with an antigravity. Is it worth the cost . Are there any advantages besides the weight and it turns itself off if senses a low voltage condition.
Thanks,
Thanks,

Yet it's your choice and if you have the $$ it might be worth it to you. Value is not the lowest cost. it's what you get for your $$. Your $$ your choice......

In addition to the light weight, it lasts longer. 8+ years.
