Default Critique new 991.2 2017 I'm looking at. Dealer discount? Options ok?

Never owned a porsche. Was looking at used 991.1 or 991.2. Wife said 'why don't you just get what you want new'. No plans to track, mainly daily driver. Expecting 10k miles per year. I'm torn between the 991.2 base versus 991.2 S. Even considered the GTS. It's SOOO easy to add on 20-30k of options to any build. My basic thought is to get a base 991.2 with a few choice options. If I loooove it maybe 2-3 years later I can aim higher. Thoughts?

1)Specifically, what about this car? It seems sort of odd that it has a build date of 1/2017 and it's still for sale. Are the options bad? I personally like the options a lot. Almost exactly what I'd build if I did this myself: PDK, glass sunroof, Bose stereo, sports chrono. Also has folding mirrors and premium package. Love the color and wheels. Am i missing something? Wonder why this hasn't sold.
2)Regarding discount- we have 2 weeks left in 2017. I'd assume the dealer would be pretty excited to sell this 2017 model. What would a reasonable discount me off of MSRP $109,915? They have it listed as $600 off (roll-eyes).
3)I'm in another city other than Houston. I would prefer it be shipped to me. I also have a local porsche dealer- if they transfer the car to themselves would they be able to give me a good discount also?

I haven't driven a 991.2 yet but the reviews have all been very positive. Regardless I'm a fan of getting at least the S model, and preferably one with Sport Chrono, on any 911.

Dealers in Houston are not big on discounting. Ask me how I know.

As for the buuild, I suspect it's sitting since it's a fairly lightly optioned car but not a performance oriented one in that it has a glass roof. But who cares, if it's what you want, go for it! Assuming you can get the price you want.

Is the glass sunroof less attractive than the regular sunroof? I know some people don't one at all, but the glass sunroof seems ideal to me.
Normally I wouldn't hold out much hope in them discounting it much but in 2 weeks itll be a 2017 911 in 2018. I'd think that would motivate them...

You will get a wide variety of opinions on your question, here's mine since I have had both a 991.1S and now have a 991.2 base.
For a newbie to Porsche, go with the base car. It will have plenty of power and handling, far more than you will be able to extract as a daily driver unless you go to the track. The 991.2 will be a better daily driver due to the torque in lower RPM's and have the latest bell's and whistles. Go 991.1 if you prefer a lower cost point and prefer a normally aspirated exhaust tone. The "S" get's you more power and bigger brakes for each model. My best advice is to drive each before you pull the trigger, they are both excellent cars, there is no wrong decision here.
As you become more knowledgeable in the brand, then go crazy if you need more power and all the options. Like you said, it's easy to add $20-$30K in a-la-cart options. (ask me how I know :-))

Thanks yeah I've heard that from several people (that the 991.2 is better with its lower torque curve etc). As much as I imagine myself as the next Ayrton Senna, I know that most of my driving is on city streets to and from work and around town so I think the 991.2 is ideal for me.

Regarding this specific car- I guess my concern is that this is an unpopular option combination? Is that why it sat on the lot so long? I guess it's missing PSE but otherwise seems like about as many options as I'd like in a base, without going option crazy.

The glass roofs are typically heavier and are a more luxury vs performance option. If you like it then buy it.

hmm that's pretty nice! Would you buy a car like that sight unseen and have it shipped (to MS)? Too risky? I could fly over there and test drive it then drive it back... off work on monday... hmmm..

If it’s what you want in a car, then buy it. Perhaps a glass roof in Houston is not a desirable option. I previously owned 2x 997 “S”s and when it was time to get a new 911, I went with a base 991.2 because it’s all I need in a car, and is faster than the 997s I owned and is as fast as a 991.1 S. One good thing about the base .2 is that it uses the same internals as the S and GTS so it’s a stout design which safely allows for a ECU tune (check GIAC). I’ll wait until the warranty has expired and I’ll go for a tune. GL with your search.

It's dark gray / Black. So it blacks out the roof. Some like that, some do not. But then again, some don't want any sunroof and some wouldn't consider anything but a cab so I don't think it will impact resale at all. If anything should be easier than no roof.

Glass roof in Houston is definitely not very attractive. Main point of glass roof is that when not open, you can open the shade and let in light. Which, down here, is actually a drawback. Just gets too damn hot.

The black 911 is a great deal !! Glas sun roof is a must have in my eyes, because it brightens up the interior, especially the black one. I bought my first 911 in October and went with the 991.2 C2, it feels perfect for me and has plenty of power in every situation. Watch this:

Personally I think that car is wonderfully spec'd. I wouldn't have any reservation about purchasing it and suspect you'd have no trouble reselling it down the road. In the 991.2 many consider the base car the sweet spot of the range. As to why the car hasn't sold I've got no idea - it is unusual for such a well equipped, gorgeous car to languish on the lot for months and months like that (esp in a big city like Houston).

Cheers,
NF

If you are looking at a car on the lot, be sure to find out the warranty start date (for the cars in this thread, the clock began ticking down months ago) - that can be factored into your price negotiation.
