Default Voice Control worse than ever

I have a new, Porsche Cayenne Turbo S with Voice Control. The problem is, there are very few instructions in the manual for voice control, and it is very difficult at times to get Voice Control to do anything except offer Help. I have always ordered my Porsches with Voice Control, and in my 2014 model, it usually worked well. Now, it really stinks. Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?

I hate it too. It doesn't work at all for me. Now I just use apple car play and siri.

Works great for me when making phone calls, but have not used it for anything else. It seems this feature is hit and miss as it works for some but not others. I could never get it to work on my BMW.

There's a reason why it's a free option ...

Voice control works better on some cars than others. But it works better on a $500 smart phone than on ANY car--and not by a small amount. That's what's so irritating.

Voice control on a car is as worthless as Nav on a car. This is why we have Smartphones that seamlessly connect via Bluetooth.

Generally true, except when you're not in a cell zone. Then the onboard NAV is considerably better.

I'm sorry to see this. Hubster's GTS doesn't have VC & I was going to add it for him. He doesn't really want it, but I did. It's not expensive, but I'll pass if it's really lousy.

I just got my wife a new 2018 Cayenne off the lot and they never checked the free option on the order so it doesn't even have voice. She is pissed and add to it no keyless entry and needless to say she is not impressed since her last car was half the cost and had more features for her.

That is actually kind of criminal today. The VC even in my GM vehicles has always worked great, except when I invent new commands. The nice lady in the dash gets confused when I make stuff up.

I thought it odd that was a no cost option when I was placing my GTS order, and not just standard with the PCM. Needless to say when it was obvious they were hoping people would miss that checkmark, my expectations for effectiveness were significantly lowered.

I guess we'll see, if my car ever gets here.

This thread's a little dated but it's the latest I found on VC.

I'm guessing my car was a dealer order when the previous owner got it (his MO would not work with any waiting time) so didn't get the free VC as I read that dealer orders did not have it. PCM tells me it's not available when pressing the button, but I did get the button, which in the 991.2 world of blank button anxiety, is positive! Even if it is hard to see on the end of the turn signal stalk.

My question is - do I really not have VC and you get the button anyway?

We've got the button on the stalk, but no VC, which is somewhat idiotic. So, you may be in the same bucket. I've been tempted to order the unit, but the GTS is the Hubster's daily driver & he doesn't care about having VC. So, we continue to be voiceless for now.

I'd originally spec'd voice control on my T4 GTS, but my SA convinced me to remove it before the config locked. His reasoning was that Carplay was far superior, and that as long as you're an iPerson, there's just no reason to add superfluous tech that will never get used.
