How much is a Rebuilt Title 991 worth
#16
Well it's not worth nothing, but I'd agree- it would be at least a 20-30% discount. If you're waiting or 50% off, you might be waiting a long time. I also agree that I'd rather get a good 997.2 than a salvaged 991.1- they'd probably be around the same price.

As far as I am concerned, its only value might be as a parts car, or perhaps for use in relatively low speed competition events like hill climbs or autocrosses.

20-30% off a clean title market price is WAY too much IMO. I’d only consider it for parts (powertrain if the front was why it was totaled etc) but I wouldn’t even think of it for more than 70% off market price.

Well I’d avoid it. I’d assume that “the market” is better at setting a price than the Rennlister gallery, but that “the market” includes a lot of posers that probably could care less if it has lingering handling issues or something and just want to show off. Leave the rebuilt titles to them because the price they’re willing to pay is likely higher than an enthusiast who is buying it for how it drives not what other people think.

I think that most rennlisters are very well informed on Porsches but are also a very small minority of the Porsche population too. Sure, most of us would't touch that car with a 10 foot pole. There are many people who would buy it. I would never buy any car for the next buyer though. If you like the car and it passes muster with a PDI, then go for it. Just get a fantastic discount.

There are too many good 991's out there to consider a salvage title.. i'd only consider it if:
-The car will be beat on heavily at the track and I don't care about wear/tear/resale
-The full repair history was documented
-The asking price was half of a clean title 991

I gotta ask- a clean title 991 can be had for about $60k. has anyone, and I mean anyone, seen properly rebuilt salvage 991s for $30k? I'm just saying if you're looking for a 50% discount, what you're really saying is you'll never buy one- just say that.

In the car business a salvage title car is typically valued at around half of a clean title car. New car dealers won't even look at a car with a branded title. I would stay very far away from a Porsche with a salvage title.

This is a big assumption.
A salvage title is issued when the insurance company determines that the car is either not repairable or it costs more to repair than it's worth. By definition a car with a rebuilt title has "issues."
If it's not repairable then you are buying a lemon. Cars that are flood damaged are not repairable, nor are cars with frame damage outside of certain limits. This is because when metal is bent it becomes fatigued, and will fail at lower loads.
If the repair costs are higher than the car is worth then whoever repaired it (and obtained the rebuilt title) likely took some major shortcuts.

My bet, salvage car needs a 30% haircut from clean title

That's a good ballpark. Depends on how bad the damage was, how good the repairs are, etc. A friend wrecked his 993 at the track some years ago -- really significant damage, bent unibody, etc -- and a talented body shop spent a year putting it back together. I couldn't tell it had been wrecked, and I can always tell. It was perfect in every detail. He sold it recently for around 10% off what a non-accident 993 would go for. So a lot depends on the quality of the work. And also how long ago it was done. Ten years later and the car looks/drives perfectly, you have greater assurance that everything is fine.
And let's not kid ourselves about the market, there are a ton of guys out there who'd love to get into a 991 at 2/3rds the price.

Wrong 80 % Death trap
My state farm agent and life long friend said cars are repaired up to 80% of value unless you bitch. The higher the value the car the more likely they are to try and fix it.
A salvaged 991 is a death trap.

i will walk away
a friend of mine got a jeep few years ago at a discount with salvage title. After few years of ownership, the car was a money pit, and cost of repairs were much 5 x the savings on initial price
