Honestly, being a watch guy, one of my all time favorite parts of the Porsche is the sport chrono package. I wouldn't buy one without it!
It does do a lot of neat things for both manual and PDK, rev matching just sounds so awesome!!

not correct - no launch control on manuals.

Mine is a MT and I really like the features it adds. I don't mind the look of the dial - anyone I've had in the car thinks it looks "cool" - it's certainly not a styling feature you see every day.

The Sport Chrono clock is also great because it gives us the time two more times, just in-case you missed the other two place the 991 give you the time. Yes, that's 4 all day.

The mode dial that you get with Sport Chrono is a serious plus on any 911. More so with a PDK transmission, but still valuable on MT cars.

It's not something you really appreciate until you've driven a p-car (any model) for a while, and find yourself wishing you could switch modes by touch.

Just my opinion, but rev matching sounds even better when I do it myself.

And be warned (if my info is correct): a MT car with SC will auto rev-match ALWAYS in sport mode. The only way to shut it off is to drive in normal mode.

Your info is not correct.....

Turn PSM off and rev matching is disabled in all modes. 991.1. and 991.2. I'm not advocating turning PSM off either - I never do.

I wish I could rev match myself but I would destroy the clutch.

The funny thing is.....I've NEVER looked at this thing for the time...or for anything else for that matter. It's just there....but I like the wart. To me....that wart means you are bad a$$. I like it for the other features it offers and the clock is just a visual clue to tell everyone you are a bad a$$.

Sport chrono is a must because you get a beautiful clock in the dash. Without it, the interior of a 911 looks bare. Seriously, with a MT, it does little except give you rev matching in sport mode. But it is cheap and does add additional driving modes and dynamic engine mounts although I wouldn’t be be able to tell what they do. It is relatively cheap and somewhat useful compared to the utterly useless sport exhaust which adds a lot of farting sounds in sport mode with no performance gain. All for a modest 3k.

Dynamic engine mounts are worth the price alone if you drive the car hard.

How can anyone say the SC clock on the Dash is ugly...?

It's all nestled in there like a tick burrowing into the back of an unsuspecting Animal. What's not to like?

4. Clock with lap timer
5. Rev matching with manual
6. Adds mode switch on steering wheel which includes
Normal mode
SPORT mode
SPORT PLUS mode
Individual mode
SPORT Response button (only in conjunction with PDK)
7. Adds launch control for pdk.
8. Changes the throttle mapping to be more responsive for pdk and manuals and holds revs higher before shifting (w/ pdk)

to the OP: No one needs any option or even a Porsche. but this option is one of my top "wants".
9. You forgot the shift light (it's called Shift Assistant), very handy on the track

Understand that in Sport or Sport+ the PADM locks the engine to the chassis and in Normal mode it floats the engine giving a smoother ride.

Like subshooter first mentioned in his item #2, the relaxing of the PSM nannies in the Sport Modes is a big feature that SC brings for me. In Normal mode the stability management system intervenes fairly quickly if you break the car loose even a little during aggressive driving. At the other end of the modes in Sport Plus, the car allows you quite a bit of slide and waggle before interrupting the throttle or doing too much selective wheel-braking intervention. I've had the car in small unplanned drifts in autocross sweepers with the car in Sport Plus and never had the car throttle back on me.

Since I won't go fully PSM off at any time on the road, I can't imagine not having a car without the ability to relax intervention short of turning it off, which only comes bundled with SC for our cars.
