991.1 GTS vs GT4

Nope.
OP, those cars are going to offer a very different experience. Do you really care more about what each of them will be worth than how well they'll do what you want them to do?
Of those two cars, I'd most certainly pick the GT4. Back seats are waayyyyy overrated in the Carrera.

I’ll bet you one GT4.
Or GTS.
Your choice.

Since both cars will be pretty darn good on the track and both are great for street driving, which car speaks to you more or wins out on your first gut impression? Even though they are slightly tilted in either direction (street vs. track oriented), overall, both can be excellent street/track cars. I went through this debate hard several times and for me, it really came down to my personal preference of the 911's classic looks and wide rear-end. But many prefer the GT4's design over the 911. The driving experience either car will bring you will be outstanding.

I think GT4 has plenty of power for track + it should be tunable to the 991.1 S output, since it's basically the same engine.
You also get the GT3 front suspension parts w the GT4, so you can run more camber w RComp tires without needing new control arms etc. And the LWB, with a harness bar you could easily run harnesses, and stay in place - whereas seats+harnesses on the GTS will be a pain, and you really do move around a lot in the 18way or 14way seats.
If you're serious about track, GT4 definitely seems more convenient, needs fewer mods, midengine layout w plenty of power - it'd be more rewarding to master w the manual too
Heavy track duty though would depreciate both.
Extra edit: I did hear people having some issues w the GT4 gearbox though - you might want to research that a bit to see if it's an issue and what fixes are there for it

Drifting
I made that choice this June, essentially swapping a 12,000-mile 2015 GTS for a 4500 mile 2016 GT4.
First, if your question is exclusively about these two particular cars, then IMO your biggest decision comes down to 6M vs. PDK. No matter how good one car is if ultimately you crave the transmission in the other one, then you'll not be satisfied. I ordered my GTS in early 2015 and recieved it 8 weeks later. I decided to go for a refined, more luxurious 911 for the first time ever. I'd had rawer versions up till then. Thought I'd get a car my wife would enjoy riding in.
Alas, she didn't. After two years it was clear the GTS was something she indulged me by riding in occasionally but never enjoyed. Too loud, especially tire-thump over expansion joints. Too low. She always preferred to take the ML350.
So I finally just admitted that this spring and decided to ignore her in my Porsche thinking and buy exactly what I want to drive, and take the MB when we're together. And what I wanted to own and drive was exactly the GT4. And ironically, prices were intersecting very nicely making it a non-financial decision.
Glad I owned the Carrera GTS; glad I got to experience PDK for 2 years. Truth is, if I'd ordered the GTS as 7M I might have even kept it. But now that I've had the GT4 for 5 months... you could offer me my GTS back plus $30,000 and I'd say no way. Beyond $30,000 and the choice gets tougher.
And to echo what Pete says, if I ever DO sell the GT4 the next buyer won't object to its heavy track usage during my ownership; absolutely not the case with the GTS. (I only tracked it once in the two years. Magic just wasn't there for me.)

Short-term (i.e. 3-4 yrs) per OP's question... my answer will be the GT4.
As far as choosing one over the other, then the GT4 all day for me (I'm actually on my second one). Not a quick easy decision though because the two cars have different intents/missions. The fun sporty quotient = the GT4; but better overall as a complete grand touring pkg = the GTS.
I haven't owned a 991.1 GTS however I did have a 991.2 C2 for about 10 months. The 991 is amazing and overall a fine complete package so I don't want to detract anything from the 991 models especially the GTS. Last month I received my GT3.2 and after even having that beast, I still truly enjoy owning & driving the 981 GT4. It's a special car really even though it doesn't have a race-engineered Motorsport engine... IMHO it still deserves the "GT" monicker and has proven it even with its 991.1-S handmedown engine. It may have some small shortcomings but many experts share the same sentiment as well--> it has an impeccable pedigree which resulted in a fabulous GT-type car and it's a blast to drive!

Three Wheelin'
I have both and they both offer a different driving experience. If I had to pick only one as a pure weekend/fun car it would be the GT4. If I had to daily the car, it would be the GTS.

Too hard to predict the GT4 resale as PAG may introduce a new model in the next cycle. If that occurs, they will become less desirable. Right now their values are holding as they are the only track ready/mid-engine game in town.

Oh cool, a discussion about two great cars!!! Oh wait....it's about which holds value. Sorry, would rather watch paint dry...
