Default Possible to activate rear camera when lane changing?

I was driving my new 17' Honda daily driver and noted that when making a right lane change (blind spot) the rear camera is automatically activated to help facilitate the change. When I hopped into the 911 for the weekend I reflexively looked at the LCD in anticipation and forgot it does not happen here. So, topic question raised. I think it would be a cool, helpful and easy feature to implement since the 911s rear is difficult to see behind.

Is it really the rear camera that is activated on the honda? I think there is a small camera on the right mirror housing that is activated, not the rear back up camera.

Correct. My Dad’s Accord has this.

I don’t quite understand this feature. To me, that’s not the blind spot I need help with.

Honda calls this feature Lane Watch and I think it's a great idea, but sadly they are moving away from it on all of their new cars in favor of the more traditional blinking lights.
Which blind spot do you need help with? The right rear seems to be the most logical area that needs help.

Yes I am mistaken - it is a small right mirror camera that is activated, not the rear camera. In that case, it would not be as useful I suppose.

Why not just properly adjust your mirrors?

Left rear is far more of an issue than right.

+1. A big concern I had when I got an M4 was it didn't have the blind spot warning lights, but after learning how to properly adjust the mirrors it was a non issue.

NavTV allows you to turn on the backup camera while driving down the highway. It's more convenient if you have the Musicar NW modification to your console switch panel. The dummy buttons are made into switches. You press a button to turn on the camera and press it again to turn it off.

+1. Ever since I learned the proper (i.e. NHTSA-sanctified) procedure, I made it a point to check every car I ever drove for blind spots not covered by it. So far (decade+), nada. And of course 991 has pretty damn good sight lines. Except straight back
