Default Apple CarPlay Issues Since iOS 11 Upgrade

Since I upgraded to iOS 11 on my phone, CarPlay no longer reads text messages automatically or when tapped. Anyone experiencing the same issue?

991.1's don't have this issue. Therefore 991.1's are clearly superior.

I keed. I keed.

But it's interesting that you mention this. I have Car Play in my GTI and while the systems aren't the same, I'm assuming they are likely authored by the same people. There are several similarities with the system I have used in several Cayenne / Macan loaners I have had. And ever since iOS 11, my CarPlay has been very buggy. Sometimes it won't connect, won't make calls, all manner of very inconsistent issues. So may be an issue overall with CarPlay, not just on the Porsche PCM.

I don't have direct experience with CarPlay, but just a couple of things to try if you don't get any other definite answers.

iOS 11.1, just released a day or two ago, resolves many Bluetooth-related issues. I'd first recommend installing the update if you haven't already.

If that doesn't completely fix it, the next thing to try is unpairing the devices and repairing them anew. I don't know if you've tried this. This fixed an unstable connectivity issue I had with another Bluetooth device after upgrading to iOS 11.

I tried unpairing and repairing, and updating to 11.1. Today I connected a new iPhone X. Same problem.

Is it possible I’m missing a setting? I don’t see any settings on the PCM, only on my phone.

I have the same issue, and my Apple Music isn't working correctly. I just fired up my new X and paired it to the car and it's even worse. Very frustrating.

Do you delete the old phone before adding the new X?

Is there a show notifications button on the BT screen?

Actually my 991.1 did have this issue when I updated my iPhone to iOS 11. I had to reactivate the feature in bluetooth settings on the phone, and it works fine now.

Very different feature. I don't think that I had any issues on either of my older PCM's. CarPlay features are much more robust.

I’m sure it is much better in the .2.

I was just talking about text message reception and the ability to have it read aloud in the .1.

Yes. Also tried deleting and adding it again as a new phone. And I even tried a different phone.

Siri doesn’t even announce when new texts arrive, but all other CarPlay functionality works perfect.

It may be in driving mode, which detects if the phone is in motion, and prevents notifications/ texts. You can turn this option off.

You can ask Siri to read texts out loud and take dictation to respond to texts, whether the car is in motion or parked. It should also read the text out loud if the notification or text is tapped.

It simply stopped working after upgrading to iOS 11, and doesn't work in park or when driving. The notification appears, but nothing happens when the notification or text are tapped.
