Looks like change for the sake of change. Form over function, unless the function is 0.01 extra mpg by killing the lines. It still looks good but is trending in the wrong direction. I’m sure HP will be up a bit (don’t expect anything massive) but it looks like an Eclipse worst case and a Cayman/Panamera front with a 911 rear and a potentially ugly rear wing best case.

Hopefully the interior adds more craftsmanship and not “more tech!” 🙄

The 911 is dead! To hell with those digital gauges! It died with that! No wait.

....ah, It died when they added turbos! (991.2) No wait.

....ah, when they added electric power steering (991.1). No wait.

....ah, when they added DFI (997.2). No wait.

....ah, when they made it look like a classic 911, but it's not air cooled! (997.1). No wait

.....ah, when they put fried egg headlights on it (996.2) No wait

....ah, when they shared headlights and interior with the Boxster (991.1) No wait

...ah, when they got rid of the upright fenders! Looks like a coke bottle! (993). No wait

...ah, when they changed the suspension, damn it! (964). No wait

And on.

And on.

And on.

The 911 has been ruined about 13 times. But we still buy them, and they still spank the competition.

Looks to me like flares front and rear for the wider track and larger tires to handle the higher performance of yet more powerful engines, and a bit of a wheelbase change to accommodate a substantial weight distribution improvement.

That's just the sort of change that upset pre 1969 911 owners when the first wheelbase addition was made to air cooled long hood cars.

Next someone will call for lead weights in the front bumper cap to bring back the "real 911", or an oil tank door in the rear quarter panel to ... oh never mind.

My comment was about this thread. All the comments have been about the 992 in here. Not sure why the need for the deja vu comment or your comment about other posters. Let's just discuss this ugly new car.

The only reason we will have the 992 is because of Peter Schutz, he passed recently.

Those who don't already know the story should read it.

Thanks for posting this article. It was a good read.

My favorite quote: "While the car could be temperamental at times, at least it had character. That's what people loved most about it."

Yep. I'm toasting Peter tonight while I give out candy.

It will undoubtedly be better, faster than the 991.2, but whether or not it's worth the wait is the question. Well and how much more will it cost.

What's the speculation on unveil? Frankfurt '18?

Pretty sure Frankfurt is held on odd numbered years for passenger vehicles, so the next one would be 2019.

991.1 was introduced at the 2011 show

991.1 TT was introduced at the 2013 show

991.2 was introduced at the 2015 show

991.2 GT3T was introduced at the 2017 show

The 991.1 and 991.2 GT3 models were introduced in Geneva (2015 and 2017 respectively), and 911R at Geneva 2016.

It's possible then that the 992 could be introduced in March at the next Geneva show.

You’re correct!

THE 992-SERIES 911 is set to debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2018. It will retain the classic Porsche shape but will also feature a few refinements, such as a more steeply raked windshield and more curve to the side. Headlights will feature matrix LEDs such as on the latest Audis, and indicators will be slim OLEDs. The powerplant will remain a 3.0-liter six-cylinder boxer despite rumors of a four-cylinder, and standard power jumps to a whopping 415 hp from the current 991's 370 hp. The Carrera S will have 463 hp, according to Porsche. Additional models within the line are anticipated, such as a more plush GTS model and the usual lightweight Club Sport version.
