getting bored with the car

.
There are cars like the 4C and others that offer much better low limit fun if driving on public roads. Few capture the essence of the 911 as an overall package though. The laws restrict its use to off road or the occasional empty road.
None of this means anything for those that own the car as a trophy.

That's.... not my experience. However, I'm aware that different people have different definitions of what is fun and what is boring. I personally don't get why a less capable car is somehow "more fun" to you, but oh well.

I prefer a livelier gear box and the tall gearing of the 911 is very boring. Not only is it boring but the 3 to 4 shift on the 7 speed is flawed and one has to be careful that they dont drop into 2nd. It happened to me a few times. Thank god I was able to engage the clutch quickly enough to not blow the motor. The six speed in the R or the new gt3 is the transmission to have in my view. i would never again buy a 7 speed manual. They should scrap it altogether or just stick with pdk as the safe alternative if they dont offer a good 6 speed. I have to stress that the gearing is way to tall. At the top of second your already at jail time speeds. You call that fun? Two gears?

As speeds increase it seems that the torque vectoring steps in and artificially enduces oversteer. But again its artificial. There are numerous other cars that will embarrass it at speeds under 80 mph in the handling department. The 911's efficiency range is from 80 to 160 mph roughly. In that range it dominates just about any automaker. The problem is that those speeds are inaccessible on public roads here in the states.

I don’t find my car to be boring at all, exploring its limits on public roads ain’t gonna happen, yes. But it offers enough symphony and theatrics between city and highway driving to stir up the soul.
Driving the wife’s ugly BMW 5GT now that’s boring, the muted twin turbos and lag are terrible. However, it was quite the champ when we took a 5 day round trip to the Cabot Trail, couple of years ago.
My daily 3 series, ehh, good DD with an exceptional hydraulic steering rack.
A car choice, IMHO, boils down to capabilities vs intended use. Very few choices out there can “do it all” and usually that comes with compromises.
Those that are fortune enough to own multiple vehicles, can pick purpose-built machines for each application.

I used to feel a bit bored with my first sports car, a used 997 TTS, as it lacked drama somehow. But after a succession of cars from BMW M, AMG, Audi, Nissan GTR, and even a Ferrari, I've come to realize why 911's are special.
Its seldom you find a car that has a combination of timeless looks, sporty yet comfortable, and reliable all the same time. I also noticed that people who have upgraded to exotics seem to often come back to Porsche.
So recently, I've come to enjoy my old 997 more after experiencing various cars. Such that after I sold my other sports cars, I decided to get another 911.
