Seems like few guys having the same issue with their water pumps. My (991.2 4 GTS) popped with a RED message to Stop driving immediately engine overheat. it was taken back to dealer only to find out the water pump needs to be replaced. It was completely empty no coolant! I've only just done 6k miles. Luckily this was covered by the warranty.
Has anyone been given a root cause explanation since my dealers only explanation was "It happens".

Just wanted to add to this thread. My water pump was replaced last week after I discovered lots of pink coolant in a similar location to the OP. 9500 miles 2017 C2. Warranty of course but I'm 2 years in to a 4 year warranty and I hope they have resolved the issue. Anyone else?

AFAIK - the 991 water pump is the exact same part as the 997 water pump. Known weak point on both cars. I think a lot of the 997 guys have decided it's a wear item and replace at the 40K service interval. These failures probably point to a bad supplier batch, as these are *way* too early to have problems.
