A month ago, my 2013 991s got the infamous Coolant Fault light. Shop replaced all 8 COV's and reset the computer. The fault light remained off for approximately 50 miles, and now has come on again.
Has anyone determined 'other causes' for the fault? I have seen posted here possible reasons including the Vacuum Hose has come off (although shop did a pressure test on the system) and faulty thermostat.
ANY other ideas? Greatly appreciated!
Same thing happened to me. I replaced all 8 COVs already but the fault came back after 100 kms.

As posted previously, I had the cooling system fault message on my 991.2 Carrera T. My local Porsche Centre diagnosed the issue and replaced a thermostat. No issues since then and (touch wood) no water pump issues either. My car has now covered just over 28,100 miles.
I just received this same error this morning, ironically on my way to my indy for new rear brakes. I'll probably do the work myself, but I thought since it's there, I'll pay them to take a look at it. I did just have the heatshield recall completed last week so hopefully, the Porsche dealer forgot to reinstall or bumped a vacuum hose loose somewhere as I think the airbox has to come out for that campaign.
From my SA today, leaking vacuum solenoid. Covered by my extended warranty. What's not covered was chewed up vacuum line on the coolant change over valve near Trans... Rodent Damage.
Update on mine - turns out the Porsche dealer is to blame. They wrecked a vacuum hose re-installing everything after the heatshield retrofit. At least they took responsibility and are repairing it for me.
The changeover valves are still ticking time bombs, but at least I don't have that problem yet!
Hello folks, I had the "Fault Cooling System" light come on back in Sept 2018. Brought to dealer and they diagnosed the vacuum lines had come off and they repaired it under Porsche goodwill. Now just last week the light returned and the exhaust sounds different, louder and deeper. I bought some rubber vacuum caps to cap the line so I can keep the exhaust sound. But in the end I just reattached the vacuum line to the exhaust valve. However, the "fault cooling system" light is still on. Do I have to drive the car for a little bit for the light to turn off? I just drove it back into the garage. Thanks! infamous warning light detached vacuum line
had the identical error message recently. Saw this post, and checked the above vacuum line to COV. sure enough, it had come loose (exactly as picture above)! Reattached vacuum line, cleared the error code, and everything seems fine again.
thanks for the above post. Hope this helps someone else.
I’ve recently joined this club after the dealer replaced my water pump. It’s come back 3 times within 50 miles each time that dealership said it was fixed. Car is going back this week again.
Been following this thread a while. Also having the same issue, although the COVs, vacuum pipes and breather pipes have all been replaced. Going in for an inspection with RPM Technik Thursday and will report back
