no disrespect to anyone who owns one, seems like a fun car. just a curious feature, would be great to know what the engineers were thinking.
is this possibly a traditional 'offroading' feature on classic Range Rovers or something? seems like it could be used to hold on to if your car was sideways by like 25degrees?

Yeah to me the driver should have both hands on the wheel in the event that driving is crazy enough to warrant needing any type of handle.
If you've ever driven a Cayenne, you'd know those "Oh sh**" handles aren't just for 4x4ing. Some models get up to speed faster than others, but it's an easy SUV to drive aggressively.
If youve ever been a passenger in a Viper driven in anger, you appreciated the big oversized grab handles Dodge provided for keeping you from being thrown about. The driver got to hang on to and stabilize herself with the steering wheel.
The Cayenne provides that big handle for the same purpose and for the sake of symmetry throws one in on the driver's side too.

This.
Driver's side is useless. But the interior would look dumb without it.
