991 7 MT Clutch Effort
Hey all. This is going to be a question that’s tough to answer over the internet. But I wanted to see what everyone’s thoughts were on their clutch effort. I’ve always thought the clutch on my car was pretty stiff. It’s hard to sit at a light for an extended period of time as it’s pretty heavy.
I drove a 997 Turbo 6MT today and the clutch was feather light. I’m not a small guy. 6’2” and pretty stout legs so it’s not like I should have an issue with it, and it’s not necessarily a chore, but my car was still way, way heavier than the 997 I drove today.
I’ve only driven one or two other 991 7MT’s and don’t recall thinking the clutch was overly heavy, but that was a while ago. I know everyone’s definition of heavy will vary, of course, and I don’t necessarily mind it as much as I want to make sure nothing is wrong with my clutch. So I would appreciate the flaming be kept to a minimum.
Thanks guys.

My point was...is the 991 clutch generally considered stiff or light or in between.

I never hold the clutch in at a light.
Have you had your brake fluid flushed yet? I think this is a shared system.
I'd say it's not light, not heavy, its medium.
Same as you 6'2".
Do you toe the clutch? Or leg it?

The GT4 is about the same as the 991 Carrera so I am curious how the 991.2 GT3 will be.

I think the clutch on a 991 is fairly heavy to keep compressed at a red light. I'm comparing it to a 3-series, cooper s and many other European clutches.
but, I would not have it any other way. I like the effort it takes and the feel of the clutch

I used to leg the clutch and toe it at the end, but with this car, it's leg all the way.

I might be able to help on this one.....maybe. Different models.
I bought my 2014 Boxster S with a 6MT after 8 years driving my only automatic car in my life. I love the transmission in the 981. It is fantastic and I was glad to be back into a MT. (Honestly I prayed that I would never ever buy an automatic transmission again)
Fast forward 4 years and I was ready for a 911. Flew to PEC-Atlanta to drive one to make sure I really wanted to spend my life's fortune on this new car. At the time, I couldn't place it.....but the 7MT of the 991.2 just felt flimsy to me. I hated it. Bought it anyway. After 2700 miles on my 991.2 (without driving the Boxster), I figured it out.....the clutch is feather light in the new 911 and I loved it. Drove the Boxster for the first time after my 911 ownership experience and the clutch felt like I needed a hydraulic piston attached to my leg to push in the clutch. I hated it. lol. I drive both cars daily for fun and I miss shifts routinely now. It's weird.
Bottom line: The clutch in the 981 is heavy (like the 991.1). The 991.2 clutch is light. I prefer this 911 clutch now.

My 991.2 clutch seems medium, not noteworthy as heavy or light.
What I do struggle with is the release point. This still seems non-intuitive, compared to my previous cars or to my perceived effort. Only car I have stalled more than once (since the first one).
