My .2 C2S is a DD so I get a lot of clutch time. My problem with the clutch are my big feet planted in 2E width New balance running shoes in a tight space.

Back to your question, I find the clutch action to be light to medium.

I had a manual .1 and now.2. The clutch is about 1/3 lighter in the .2 and, much, much improved in throw and feel.

One guy puts his hands in a bowl of water at 60 degrees and another has his hands in a bowl of water at 100 degrees. They then put their hands in a bowl of water at 80 degrees, and are asked if the water is warm or cool. The same applies to a clutch. Having driven very high HP cars, I'm accustomed to stiff clutches. So the 991 clutch pedal feels light to me.

The pressure plate is what gives the clutch a heavy or light feel. Stronger pressure plates will give a heavy feel. High HP sports cars have stronger pressure plates because they have to put a lot more pressure on the clutch disc to keep it from slipping than your standard economy car. I know that my description is superficial but it may help to explain stiff and light clutch pedals.

i would call it heavy. my other regular manual drive is a fiat 500 abarth which in comparison is light as a feather .

funnily enough my 16 year old is driving the fiat a lot and was in the (not moving) seat of the 991 the other day and was shocked when he put his foot on the clutch for the first time.

I have drivin manual my whole life. I would say the 991.2 is light to medium more on the lighter side.

Having driven a wide variety of manual transmission cars, trucks, and tractors over many years, I would not describe the clutches in my 991.1 or 991.2 as either heavy or light, but simply well within the normal range. I did not notice a significant difference in transitioning from the 991.1 to the 991.2. Certainly, neither required undue physical effort from this 150 lb seventy-five year old.

Keeping the clutch depressed at traffic lights, or when stuck in traffic, causes excessive wear of the throwout bearing and can lead to eventual expensive repairs.

I have driven manuals my entire life and my 991.1 C2S clutch is definitely on the heavy side.

if the prev owner was not a skilled or knowledgable MT operator , esp if he kept clutch depressed and the tranny in 1st gear vs neutral/ clutch pedal released at every full stop , the throw out bearing may be shot ...and a stiffer / stiffening clutch pedal is the physical symptom as the miles pile up and occas a subtle tranny rattle is heard at idle with the clutch pedal released but eliminated when pedal pushed in

We need a poll, well, really 2 polls:

Poll #1- my clutch is
Heavy
Light
Medium

Poll #2- I can squat
<my body weight
>than my body weight
+100 pound more than my body weight
what the hell are squats (aka I drive PDK)

And then do a data overlay.

***I don't know how to do polls****

Interesting comparison to the 997 TT. I found the 997 TT to be the heaviest clutch that I have ever owned, and the most difficult to operate. The clutch in my 996 was light and easy by comparison. I haven’t yet had a chance to drive a 991 7MT for comparison.

.1 clutch was much heavier than the .2 clutch.

I'd say it's not light, not heavy, its medium.

Same as you 6'2".

Do you toe the clutch? Or leg it?
I'm also 6'2" and agree with everything Lex said.

I was in Italy for two weeks recently and rented a 500 Abarth there. First time I pressed the clutch pedal in the Abarth, I thought my foot was going to go through the floor. Got used to that after a while, and drove that car for two weeks. Fun car.

After two weeks in the Abarth, the first time I pressed the 991 clutch pedal, it felt like it was made for the Incredible Hulk. I seriously couldn't believe how much pressure I had to apply to put the clutch in - I remember thinking the 991.1 had a slightly heavier clutch when I test drove it before buying one, compared to my F30 335i, but the difference vs the Abarth was really severe.

So I guess this clutch pedal firmness issue definitely revolves around what you're used to, but I do like the "relatively firmer" pedal of the 991.1.

Agree with others. The clutch effort is about in the middle of other cars I've driven. My other car that I drive on a regular basis is a bit lighter and I wouldn't mind if this one had slightly less effort, but it's never really been an issue for me.

I've owned my 2013 (991.1) C4S MT for 3 years now. Semi-daily. The clutch is medium/heavy. Moderately heavy compared to most modern vehicles. I love the direct mechanical feel of the 991.1 clutch. The catch point is very distinct to me. It felt intuitive the very first time I drove the car.

I test drove a 2018 (991.2) GTS MT last week. I was surprised to find that the clutch springs are considerably lighter. I agree with BlackBeauty -- maybe 30-40% less effort compared to the 991.1 Still decent feel. Of course I only drove it for 20 minutes, but I never really found the clutch catch-point to be as distinct and intuitive.

Owned a 987 Cayman MT for 4 years. Required clutch pedal pressure was lighter than 991.1 Similar to 991.2.

I daily a 2016 Golf R MT. Super light clutch pedal springs. almost no feel. Driven it 20k miles now from new -- still can barely tell where the catch point is. It almost certainly comes straight out of the regular Golf. I don't love this transmission. I am a die-hard manual guy. But the boosty, laggy 2.0 L engine does not match well with this transmission. But I don't regret picking it over the DCT. The dual clutch would be fast and smooth and perfect: I'd be bored to tears.

You want to feel a heavy clutch? Try an air cooled car, like a 964. Wow- what a workout.

As an aside -- while I prefer the clutch pedal feel on my 991.1, I found the shifter throws on the 991.2 to be much more satisfying than on the 991.1. The .2 shifter is smoother, it slides into the gate with no springiness or rubbery feel, no pop, less notchiness. But still has positive action. Similar to the shifter feel on the 987 and 997 cars. Just about perfect.
