Some people just don't know that gasoline is flammable. How many idiots do you see at the gas pump with a cigarette in their mouth?

I didn't list the man not pumping the gas since this woman is equal to a man...

My wife would never pump with me present because 1.) I'd step up and 2.) we're not equal, she's way better.

 

He was in St Pete the day after the storm? No gas for 400 miles? What do you think?

And you didn't say it like that. you said "I Cant imagine a point in my life where I would actually drive a 911 to carry a gas tank!"

Maybe this is his only car. Maybe his family ran from the storm in their other car.

You would just let your generator run out of gas because your at this point in your life where you couldn't possibly go get a can of gas in your 911.

Now smoking cigarettes with the can in his car was certainly a dumb move.

 

The frunk has more than ample room for most any consumer gas tank.... irrespective of his circumstances, I would never carry something like that IN the car. The fumes alone much less spillover of any kind.

When Hurricane Sandy hit, there was no gas available in NY. So even if you had a gas generator, pretty soon it became useless. I drove to my house in PA to pick up a bunch of gas cans I had there, filled them up and Mad Maxed it back with 55 gallons in the back of my Lexus SUV. No smoking or matches though! But the gas was enough to get us through until our power came back on.

Just saying, sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures.

And as a more general matter, you can't fix dumb!

On the once or twice per year that I transport gasoline in my car (not the 911!), it is put on the floor in the rear. The front seat is then moved backward to gently hold the can in place. At all times, no matter the weather, windows are wide open for the two mile ride back home. The 20lb propane tanks are transported the same way. Frunk/trunk storage may allow fumes to accumulate and I'd prefer to transport it in the ventilated passenger compartment. Additionally, if the tank were to rupture in an accident it would likely be from the tank sliding and hitting something inside the trunk.
