One problem with start/stop that can't be fixed, is climate. Here in FL, where the A/C is running hard most of the year, it really can't be used effectively even if you wanted to use it. The battery can't keep up with the draw through a stoplight, so it restarts while the light is still red. It will generally work OK in Jan/Feb, but not so well the rest of the year.

I have it off 95% of the time, but occasionally remember to turn it on for the coasting feature, which is actually kind of cool.

Why not? What difference does it make?

Wear and tear on the fan motor. Wear on the cabin filters. These reasons come to mind.

Never heard much and fan motor failures and are not all filters on maintenance replacement schedules? I like to keep air moving also.

I do run a/c on full blast in summer with top open, all the time ! I guess I'm willing to take that risk of fan motor failure...
