991.1 PDK transmission leaking oil
Hi all, I tried searching the forum, can't find any answers....I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this issue...
I have a 991.1 C2S with 50k kilometers, a few months ago I noticed that my whole transmission casing is covered in oil, transmission oil level is normal and I replaced the gasket during last service because it was already covered in oil. During this whole time my transmission oil level have been normal.
I took it to my Porsche dealer, they said it's an issue with this part circled in the picture below. They said it is repairable, but they're not allowed to fix anything with the PDK transmission they're only allowed to replace the whole transmission which will set me back $15000, they also said that it's not an urgent issue my car can be driven the same as usual. If I want it fixed, they suggest me to take it to an outside mechanic.
So I took the above picture to my mechanic, he said the only part near here with oil going through is this one:
Before my mechanic drop the engine to reach this part to replace, I want to see if there are other people who have this issue?
I heard rumors that many other 2012 991.1 also have this problem, and this problem only occurs under very hard driving. My car only goes out on weekends to the track or to do mountain runs, I don't do any daily driving with it at all....I'm afraid replacing this part won't do anything and I'd be just wasting money.
I want to ask you guys.....Is it true that other 2012 models also have this issue? If so, does it require attention or just let it be?
Thank you all!

I don't want to minimize the anxiety but why fix it? If there is no drop in oil level and no performance issues it would seem that you live with it rather than fix it. Porsches have been leaking oil of some sort for years.

Forget what the dealer told you. It's most likely a leak from the PDK oil pan gasket which they are allowed to replace (personal experience). You don't need to drop the engine to do this and the part isn't that expensive. At the very least I'd suggest looking into this before taking a more involved route.

the picture I took is just the transmission when the car is jacked up, compare to my friend's car who drives just as hard his transmission casing is completely in original color and not covered in oil.

Where is that plastic looking pan located?
Is it covered by one of the flat under car cover pieces?
Or is it the aluminum oil pan that turned black in color?

i was consider living with it until I saw my friend's transmission, that's when I decided to take it back to the dealer......that much oil on the transmission looks scary and it seem obvious to me there's something wrong if the same other car don't look like it.

im not very technical but it is the aluminum part that turned black cuz it's covered in transmission oil. It is covered by the flat under car cover piece, the pic is taken without the cover

[QUOTE=revolution225;14428542]This is what my friend's transmission looks like, same 2012 991 c2s
Looks like the engine oil pan to me.
The PDK oil pan has a very different part number and shape. Any part # starting with 9A1 is an engine component. The part number of this pan is no longer available and has been superseded to 9A1-107-031-20

from the moment I took my car in, the only thing I heard the dealer and my mechanic talk about is the PDK transmission, and I've been looking at the oil pan thinking it's the casing covering the transmission. Glad I came here and learned something lol.
Regardless, dealer confirmed to me that I have a small leak with the part that's circled in red, dealer said under hard driving, my transmission oil is coming out from there. It is a problem albeit not a major one according to the dealer. If I want it fixed, it's either replace the whole PDK transmission or go to a indy and remove the transmission and engine to reach the part, but my mechanic say he suspect replacing the part won't solve the problem.
Has anyone seen or had to deal with such problem?
