Default FIXED- Instrument Cluster Lens Scratch. Repair?

I noticed tonight that the instrument cluster lens that goes over the digital display got a small scratch. I'm not sure how that happened.

It's not micro scratches but a scratch that I don't think can be polished out. You can see it in the picture over the oil temp reading.

Can the individual lens or all the lenses be easily replaced?

Thanks for any information!

I am sure lens can be replaced, it is just a matter of cost. Have seen posts of people changing out color of their gauges, so would think process would be the same except instead of changing gauge plate, you would change out lens.

Use toothpaste. Gently rub and massage in. Wipe clean. Its a very mild abrasive that should lighten if not remove.

So...sounds like the only way to fix this is to get a new cluster...$3k. Nuts.

Your best bet is Plexus. You're not going to get the scratch out, you're going to minimize it.

I would not use toothpaste. If Plexus doesn't help, try Meguiar's plastic polish, then go over with Plexus. Use a damp MF towel to apply and remove.

I've fixed more than my share of plastic items in the past. I've used Plexus (doubt it will help here), Novus, and Polywatch. You can try plexus first since it's the least abrasive...it will probably make the scratch look better for a short while. Polywatch would be my first choice - it's made for plastic/acrylic watch crystals thus it is mildly abrasive but designed to leave a clear finish. The Novus line is great but I suspect the heavy scratch remover will reduce the transparency of your cluster and the light scratch remover won't be abrasive enough. As with any repair/touchup it will never be 100% factory perfect but I think Polywatch and some elbow grease will get you 95% of the way there.

Please let us know what you use and how it turns out!

Cheers,
NF

I had the exact same scratch. I used Novus and it removed the scratch about 95%, to the point where it just looks like a piece of lint. The key is to use the included cloth and start with bottle 1, then 2, then 3. Spending the most time with bottle 3. After the scratch is to your satisfaction, go back to 2 then finish off with 1 (think of it as polishing your clear coat, going from lease abrasive to most and vice versa to bring out the gloss)

Thanks for this. It didn't cause any additional damage I assume?

no, it didn't at all, the product smoothed out the scratch and looks much better. I was worried about the same thing then I decided to just dive right in. It actually feels much smoother than before.

Griot''s Garage plastic polish works great as well. I use pieces of old cotton flannel bed sheets for the cloth.

I recommend using sandpaper #6000, then #8000 and last #10000. Just to flatten the scratch. Then use ceramic compound on the surface, and last an acrylic polisher. 15 mins of job. If you are my neighbour I'll do it for you for free 😀
