Default 991 has the easiest oil change ever, why pay ?

Who says you can't work on those modern cars... Not saying that in jest, this is probably the easiest P-car I've ever changed oil on, including a 356 (no valve adjustment at the same time). A lot less messy too !!!

The 996/987 required more contorsions under the car for the filter... The aircooled oil filer made a mess to remove or reinstall, and you had to do the oil tank and case... The 911 is: pop the engine lid, pop the fans, unclip, remove the accordeon thingie, filter, boom... Depending on your oil pan, you barely need ramps because all you gotta do under the car is pop that 8mm allen... 0-40 splashes easily though..

the only trick was remembering where/how the accordeon rubber thing clipped on... POR II tool reset the interval in 30 seconds without even being updated. the car did take a while to report on the oil level but eventually did... I'm ready for a job at Jiffy Lube...

I change the oil myself every 5k because it's so easy but then take it in for the 10k I figure it's good to have someone who knows what they're doing look over things in case something else needs attention.

Oh I'm not saying don't have a pro look it over, but not for an oil change... I'll let them do my plugs, doesn't sound fun ! Everything else will ping the ECU anyway, so many sensors nowadays - it was amusing and irritating not to get an oil level for hours after the oil change.. Had to really watch myself and my tendency to overfill ;-) Any the point was : It's shockingly easy to change oil on a 991, hard to believe some charge near $400 !

its even easier in a Cayenne. I just raise the air suspension up to off road, remove the belly pan and drain the oil, then the filter is right on top of the engine.

in 5000 miles, sure ;-)

There's a couple good step by step DIYs on this very forum. It's truly super easy to pop the fans and air intake, all plastic clips. Looks impressive but it all pops back in place in seconds !

It will take you less time to change the plugs than the it took you to do the oil change. You will save a small fortune, especially if you wait until the year end when Bosch will be selling our plugs for $6-$7 versus $24 that Porsche charges.

It's definitely one of the easiest I've done in a loooooong time. I seriously considered doing "mobile oil change" at PCA meetings since a lot of them pay $$$ for dealer to do it.

Interesting tidbit on the .2 I didn't remember reading on here before... on the oil change, the oil level seems to be more accurate. No blocks between high and low and the level line rises and falls. Also no waiting for oil to warm up, just gives reading right away.

Incidentally the manual doesn't reference this, it just basically says keep it in the green. Yellow for too high or minimum is bad, red for below minimum is real bad and add more now!

I changed my oil this past Friday evening. It was my first time with this car so I took my time and carefully followed the directions in the thread here on Rennlist. No drama and no problems and I am happy to have the initial post break in oil changed. Good for my peace of mind.

Been saying the same thing for about 3.5 years now......

Even the 40K service is straight forward and easy to do.

Heathen! On my wife's Audi SQ5, its all done from the top with my vac machine. I don't even get dirty or a drop of oil on me.

I've never done an oil change but want to get hands on and learn how to do this. Greg let me know when you hit your next 5k and are okay with having a spectator come by.

There are plenty of DIY's on this and other forums. As Greg and others have pointed out, it is easy.
