AWD+Manual vs RWD+PDK
Greeting all,
I have recently started my research in buying my first 911. I currently own a Macan and the 911 will primary use for summer driving only in Toronto. I don't plan to track the car often but would like to enjoy a lot of time for some nice twisty road off the city.
My big question is. While I want this car to be fairly practical, I also want to have more fun element. PDK+AWD is probably the fastest, but I feel the whole package is taking too much away from the driver.
So I am currently debating on either:
AWD+7spd
/
RWD + pdk
on a 2018 991.2 GTS.
Any advice is much appreciated.

I am AWD and MT biased. Having owned 4 previous Porsche TT cars of 996 and 997 vintage, all AWD and manual, I just really appreciate the looks and the planted handling of the AWD cars and I never drive it in the winter.
Both cars great and a blast to drive its really about what you like and what suits your driving style.

A manual is going to be the most involving for street driving. PDK is a better transmission by almost every measure and is much easier for the practical DD stuff but it is less emotional. Manual mode helps but I think what it really needs is force feedback in the shift so you can feel what the car is doing.
Personally I'd probably go RWD to get the car more lithe. You need snow tires regardless, and if that's not enough and the additional help of 4wd is really needed for snow you will probably be in the SUV for ground clearance anyways.
That said, I've found the AWD in the turbo to be a lot of fun - was thinking I'd miss RWD but I really haven't. Partly though AWD and PDK really suits the turbo line well.
So really, I think you'll be happy with any option set you choose. But if you consider AWD+PDK, make sure you check out the turbo models before your order locks. I love mine.

Many would argue that RWD is proper. This group also testifies that a Cab is NARP.
I chose RWD Cab:P
There is so much traction in a RWD 991 #1 or #2... all preference. Some additional case to be made if you're driving in snow/ice. Even then - acceleration isn't the challenge - it's stopping and AWD won't help with that.
