997.2's sound like ****. If part of driving a Porsche is the aural experience, you're not going to get it with anything that has a turbo on it. While the engine has more grunt off the line on the new models, it lack that classic Porsche "pull" that you get at 3,800 rpm when the engine gets on the cam and starts wailing. Finally, the powerplant is heavier overall - I believe its around 50 lb, not that its a deal killer for most, just a data point.

Then, onto the financials. I was in the dealer on Wednesday considering a 2018 Targa 4S coming in. $ 150K and no discounts. They offered me $ 72K on my 2014 Cab S with 17K miles on it. My car is not too shabby - this photo taken this week:

So I have to pay over twice as much to get 15% more car, then another $ 6K in sales tax, and double my personal property tax in VA every year on the car (currently $ 3K annually, would go to $ 6K). It's just not worth it.

I think a combination of all those factors is why the 991.1's are not being fire-saled out. But what do I know?

You're exactly right. MAYBE the 3.8 is slower than the 3.0tt.... but the sensation just isn't there and i guarantee there isn't a 3.0tt that is accelerating any faster on a regular basis than even a 3.4 driver - it's simply wreckless.

Furthermore - I'd bet that 99% of us on here can't drive a 991.1 3.4/base to it's full potential so why bother with anything more. The NA engines are far more fun for the mountains.... Hit loose gravel with all that torque and you'll wish you had a 991.1... If the 0-60 time is such a primary concern then get a GTR and save $75K.

Before the 3.0tt - nobody ever had a complaint that a 911 was underpowered, even against corvettes. The 991.1 3.4 is lighter and more powerful than previous S cars as well for perspective.

Lastly - people knit which seats to get and other options based on weight. The 991.2 is ~75 pounds heavier without rear wheel steering.

LOL yeah, the 3.4 is sad down low in the RPMs. I really suspect you own a 991.1. That's okay.

My message posted to the other thread. If anyone is still interested, there's a 2014 991.1 C2S PDK Agate with 32K miles.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-Porsche...NZgOZt&vxp=mtr

I wanted to add that I bought my 2014 991.1 C4S PDK CPO in white 3 keys with Aero Cup Kit with 34K miles with dash and back cam for $79K. No regrets. It was mint. Owner was very trustworthy and even lowered the price by $2K.

I swapped my PCCB from my 997.1 that I sold in June.

There goes my plan. I've been lying in the weeds waiting to pick up a 4S Targa when they get to be 3 years out (and lots of leases come in). So far the ones that have hit the market have been listed at original MSRP even with 20K miles, and have sold quickly. So...guess that plan isn't working out too well.

You think it's bad in the US? Here in Canada, the pickings are slim, and the prices are nuts.

I had given up on buying a 991.1 S this year until I came across a literal unicorn build (100% perfect options list for my purposes), so late in the year... at a price that, at least by Canadian standards, wasn't out to lunch.

I started looking, seriously, in April. Other than the 2013 C2S that I did purchase, I never came across a single 991 that was even close to the spec that I wanted.

If you want a PDK, it's easy... but MT cars are hard to find, for sure.

"but now it appears Base cars are flying before I can even pick up the phone or send an email to inquire about them."

After looking around for about 3 months, I bought my 2013 991.1 C2S within 12 hours of it appearing on Porsche Locator. It checked all my boxes, and boxes I didn't even know I had - Aerokit, full wrap, glass tint and radar.

Others have said it. If you like it, jump on it, cuz others are certain to like it as well.

I have been in the market for a 991.1 S/4S since March. It seemed like prices took a rise up, and the market got hot in May through summer. It will be a big test if the market holds in 1) the winter months 2) when the 991.1's come off warranty. The 13's w/out warranty seem to be selling in a lower "tier" of pricing than a 14/15 with warranty.

I bought my first 991.1 4S in April, ended up selling it for a different 911 this week. I did sell the 4S this week for more than I paid for it in April.

I am sticking w a .1 since it will be the last time to own a non turbo w warranty. I know I can always pick up a turbo in the future. I bet others are thinking the same which is keeping .1 prices w/ warranty at a premium for the next 12 to 18 months.
