Default Bose: 2013 vs 2014+

I have a '13 991 & a '14 981 both with Bose. The system in the Cayman is substantially better than the 911.

Was there a change in the parts or quality of the system post-'13?

Can't speak to the components—I am sure a 981/991 Bose anorak can—but the acoustic environment between 981 and 991 is very different, as are any speaker placements after of the seats.

From anecdotal evidence, the 991.2 Bose system is definitely better than the 991.1 setup.

Perhaps it's the speaker or tweeters? Not sure.

The 2017+ Bose system has changes that came alongside the PCM update and Apple CarPlay. It also seems like the standard audio system for the 991.2 lost power compared to its predecessor in the move from 991.1 to 991.2.

Bose for 991.1:
"The optional BOSE® Surround Sound System was specially developed for the Porsche 911 and is therefore perfectly tuned to the car’s specific interior acoustics. It has a total output of 445 watts and comprises 8 amplifier channels, 12 loudspeakers including a 200-watt active subwoofer. The combined effect is a balanced acoustic pattern that transforms your new Porsche 911 into a concert hall. The BOSE®-patented AudioPilot® noise compensation technology uses a microphone to continuously monitor the ambient noise inside the vehicle and adapts music playback instantly and automatically."

Bose for 991.2:
"The optional BOSE® Surround Sound System has been specially developed for the 911 models and is optimally tuned to the specific interior acoustics of these particular vehicles. The audio system features 12 fully active loudspeakers and amplifier channels including a patented 100-watt active subwoofer integral to the vehicle bodyshell. This fully active system setup enables each individual loudspeaker to be optimally adapted to the vehicle interior and transforms the 911 into a fast-moving concert hall. Total output 555 watts."

The Bose in my 981 Boxster definitely sounded better than the Bose system in my 991.1. I was in fact disappointed with the system in the 991. I will say that the Musicar Northwest tweeter upgrade helped tremendously, but I'd say even with that, the 981 system was overall better sounding. JMO.

New 991.2 on order with Bose, so fingers crossed regarding the upgrade from the 991.1's.
