This!

I am surprised all the people recommending banging, heating, or drilling (!) into this panel did not consider that an air bag module, including the explosive gas charge, sits inside.

I would have it replaced just to make sure the air bag functions correctly if you need it.

this is exactly what I'm looking for. Do you by any chance have the part number for it? Or where you went to look up this diagram.

i am most definitely having the dealer handle this. I just wanted to determine if this piece was replaceable before calling tomorrow.

agreed, airbag is not where anyone wants to poke around with. I am also a bit worried it might not function right so I definitely want to get it fixed.

normally I wouldn't stress about these kind of things. But it's in plain sight when I get into the car and I'm worried about the air bag function.

Check the link. Part #12 shows up past halfway down the page. Several options according to your particular seats.

Could have been the seat belt buckle getting wedged between seat and panel behind the door. Look for a corresponding blemish inside below B pillar. Those guys move the seats up and back to allow a bit more room to work and when all the way back, there isn't much clearance.

I do have a dent on the inside wall by the back seat so something did get wedge there. This dent I can live with because I won't get see it but waiting but want to fix the dent on the air bag cover.

As an update this part is replaceable. If anyone in the future needs this part fixed, I got a quote for $850 including tax, parts, and labor.
