My tail light fell out!
#31
When my tailight fell out it was on Highway 1... discovered it when stopping at the Marshall Store. Fortunately it just popped out and the wiring held it in and kept it from scratching the bumper.

The bracket that holds the tail light in is very strong and beefy... unfortunately the taillight is only connected to said bracket on the inner side by one small plastic screw eyelet that easily breaks.

I had the same thing happen; the tail light support broke in the same place on my 2012.5. Its a large, heavy assembly to be secured by the small support. Glad to see it seems to have been updated. Mine was replaced under warranty. My service tech said it was the first he'd heard of like it.

Same issue
I recently had the same issue with my 991.1 C2S. Heard/felt a clunk sound a few s
says after some spirited driving on an aggressive canyon road. Was wiping down my car after a detail and saw my tail light popped out loose. Ordered the clear white upgrades from Suncoast, but was wondering if the damage could have been caused by the car detailers using the high pressure air blowers to dry off my car?

So, last night I was driving and I pull up to a stop light and a guy in a work van next to me signals, roll the window down. He then proceeds to tell me "you light is off." I pulled over thinking it was just a bad bulb and to my surprise I find the entire passenger side tail light hanging by the wire off the back of the car! I then just unplugged the light and took it home with me.
Anyway it looks like the plastic on the light cracked somehow and now I need a new light.
Couple of questions:
1.) anyone else experience something like this?
2.) I just purchased a tail light on ebay but the part number is different from the number on my original light. - will there be an issue using this tail light?
The part number from my light is 991.631.146.12 and the one I bought online is 991.631.145.13
3.) should I install the new light or bring it to a specialist - I know this is subjective but what would you do?

I had the same thing happen a couple of months ago, at track day sponsored by the dealer where I bought my car. Not just one, but both fell out! They took care of me and ordered two new lights and replaced them under CPO warranty. I live about a 3 hour drive from the dealer, so they couriered the parts to me so I could install them. The new lights didn't have the metal reinforcing bracket shown earlier in this thread, but the light housing was attached to the mounting bracket with copious amounts of what looked like a black silicone adhesive.

I think something with a little more flex might be good. Shoe Goo might work well.
