2017 991.2 TTS Center lock Wheels... Sell or Keep?
I am swapping out the stock 20" TTS wheels for HRE P101 21" wheels as soon as my 911 arrives in March.
My dilemna... should I keep or sell the stock wheels/tires? (They will literally have zero miles on them)?
We live in Florida, so keeping them for a winter set of tires is not necessary.
The pro's I see in keeping them are:
- Could potentially sell with the car if this is important to a future buyer
- The 21" front tires are often on back order, keeping these provides comfort that if I have an issue sourcing new tires I can simply put the 20"s back on (although, I am planning to buy a second set of front tires to hedge this risk)
The cons in keeping them:
- Will need to store the original wheels/tires, which I will likely never use.
- Seems like a waste to have such a nice set of wheels/tires just sitting in the garage when I am sure they would be of more use to someone else.
The shop installing the HRE's offered $1,500 for the full set. This seems crazy low when you consider how much a new set of wheels costs (especially when considering it costs $3,790 to "upgrade" a base Turbo for these, albeit this does provide them center lock).
Interested in everyone's input.

I don't own a P-car....yet but I've almost always sold my stock rims & wheels. I personally don't like things laying around in my garage collecting dust. I've kept some in the past but I've never ever reused them. Since you live in warm climate, there's no need to have a set of winter tires. I've had good luck selling them on ebay and Craigslist. Do not, I repeat, do not sell them for $1,500!!! That's just criminal for the shop to offer you so little. I'd price them out online and list them accordingly. Considering HRE and BBS wheels alone will set you back about 10 grand, you can do the math on OEM wheels and brand new 20" tires.

I bought HRE P101's for my 2014 TTS, and I kept my OEM wheels/tires and sold them with the car when I ditched it this summer. I installed the HRE on the new car. I tried selling the 2014 both with and without the HRE's, and you won't get much at all extra for the wheels when you go to sell the car, so either swap them to the next car, or sell them outright for more than the OEM are worth.

I'm in the exact same situation coming next month. I also went to HRE 21s. I'm keeping stock so I can put them back on the car when I sell it and I have a spare set if needed. Dealer storing them for me. I also had issues sourcing 21 inch tires so keeping stock set is a good safeguard for this as well (hopefully never needed). If I had to actually store them might be a different story.

It sounds like you do not want to keep the original wheels around. I kept mine, but mostly because I have the space and would sell the car with the original wheels if I decide to sell the car.
The 1500 dollar offer from your shop is laughable. The center lock TTS wheels to be fair are pretty specific to another TTS and as Honda states a guy looking for a winter set up would be your best bet. The brand new tires are a bonus to whoever buys them as well. I'd just try listing them on ebay or here/6speed.

Keep the originals. 21" after market wheels will be a deal breaker for most private buyers.
Plus it will really hurt trade-in value because the car cannot be CPOd like that.
So if you sell the OEM wheels you will end up getting less for your car later. If you keep them, you will get more for the car, and more selling the HREs than selling the OEM wheels.
From a money perspective, keeping OEM is a dominant strategy.

I have a .1 TT and I kept mine.
1. In case the new owner doesn't like my taste in wheels and wants the original.
2. If I trade it in, the dealer will actually ding you for non stock wheels much less give you more for a nice set.
3. Far better to sell stock and just sell your aftermarket as you will get way in the long run.
Good luck with your decision.
