991.1 Turbo /S vs. MP4-12C

My HPDE student at Sebring had a 12C that I spent half the day in on track. The transmission and its selection of gears in Auto mode was really bad - slow reaction time for both downshifts and upshifts and
the computer's choice of gears were simply wrong. No comparison with the PDK Auto selection in the TTS or the GT3 which is superb and will out-think even a pro-driver most of the time. The '14 McLaren Tranny I instructed in was much improved but, as a drivers car, for numerous reasons the TTS IMHO, is far superior.
Admittedly, if you are a Cars and Coffee guy only, the McLaren will attract FAR more attention from onlookers and require more from mechanics.

I was very close to buying a 23k mile 2011 12C but an independent inspection by a specialist uncovered a number of expensive faults so I passed and bought a 10k mile 2013 Turbo S instead.
On the way home from collecting the car the dash it up with numerous faults then the rear brakes started dragging leaving us stranded and having to have the car recovered home and then onto my local Porsche dealer. The fault was caused by a sticking bush in the brake pedal causing the brakes to stick on and confuse the cars electronics hence the warning lights.
A few hundred miles later the heater stopped working leaving us blowing out breath vapour in a freezing cold cabin. That was fixed and the dealer found a leaking air on radiator at the same time so that was also replaced.
Then a few hundred miles later the rear spoiler wouldn't deploy so I got a restricted speed warning on the dash. Back to Porsche for repair again.
All covered under warranty and dealt with very efficiently by Porsche. I know of the previous owners who say the car was imprecisely with them so I'm putting the issues down to the lack of use and am not unduly worried. The point is just that Porsche are not immune to niggly faults.
As a side note the 911 was up for sale with an aftermarket 12 month warranty. I insisted on a 12 month Porsche warranty instead then paid the extra myself to extend to two years. It's apparent that that was a good move.
I would not begin to consider a McLaren without a McLaren warranty but I do still hanker after one and am keen to see the P14.
The 911 is fantastic, I'm enjoying driving it and it gets used in all conditions, something that I just wouldn't do with a McLaren.

John,
I appreciate your thoughtful response. I reside in Orange County, and there are numerous McLaren dealers nearby. My brain tells me that something could potentially come up, and as I understand, the extended warranty thru the dealer is ~ $4400/year.
That being said, I think the best point you made is with respect to resale. I think the MP4-12C will be a tougher pill to swallow in 2 years from a buyer's standpoint, especially given what the market may offer at a similar/lower price.
The 991 TT might be made more of an "occasion" once I do some performance mods and change the aero/wheels/tires to my liking. Decisions, decisions.

i would look more more at a used 570 S and think it's a nicer looking car........but I guess that wasn't the question. :-)
