Default 991.2 Turbo Kit for SEMA

We stripped a 991.2 Turbo S down in the last month for a SEMA build. The car will be featured in the Turbonetics booth. We had every component out of this car in order to do this build.

The car has a fuel system, upgraded transmission, turbo kit and tuning. The car will be getting many other parts upgraded shortly after SEMA.

Why did you choose turbonetics turbos when there are so many nicer options like Garrett precision xona or borg warner?

This particular series turbo in this size works very well. This is their TNX line turbochargers and it is a fairly large turbo for this type of application. We use different turbochargers when searching for different results. We are showcasing this type of turbo set up for Turbonetics at SEMA.

We are demonstrating a different type of set up that we don't usually see on these cars. An equal length header with this collector type is not usually utilized on a Porsche. We have an extension at the end of the collector that can be changed to mount a T28, T3, T4 or a v-band connection. The turbo is mounted very high behind the fender so you will see that we are not utilizing a drip tank because the turbo location is not much higher than the oil pan unlike most mounting locations. This is a drag or 1/2 mile event set up that utilizes an air to water intercooler set up so we do not have the air to air intercoolers behind the tire anymore. The turbo gets its air from the intercooler air duct now instead of from under the trunk.

It's just something different that we hope people can get new ideas from and try new set ups.

How much boost are you going to run?

Did you pull the engine down and replace rods?

Good luck with the project..

Rods were ordered last week and they are about 5-6 weeks out and it's going to be quite a while till we can provide the fuel that this car is going to need. We were starting to fabricate a street turbo kit but about 2 weeks ago we got the call from Turbonetics to see if we can build a car for their booth. We always were planning to do a drag and 1/2 mile turbo kit but this invitation to SEMA sped up that process.

We just got it completed and started it today. The car has a Dodson clutch we just put in it as well.

I would say we are probably 3-4 months out if everything went really good to being able to drive this car in anger with that set up. A hell of a lot of moving parts would have to come together to make that a reality.

This is a 991.2 Turbo and that creates a lot more challenges than a 991.1 Turbo.

So essentially without rods this cars going to be a glorified full bolt style 700whp car just with upgraded larger turbos on it for the time being to show at sema but currently can't be used to its full potential at all....

We were starting to build a street turbo kit with much smaller turbos that used air to air intercoolers still when we got the call from Turbonetics about building a car for their booth at SEMA. Everything ion this car is to show off the Turbonetics turbos that are on the car. Our plans were always to build a drag style or 1/2 mile set up but this just accelerated that process. Of course with a kit like that we would not be satisfied with 700 horsepower. We only build something like this so that we can potentially make a lot more than 700 horsepower.

We still need to build our street turbo kit when we get back from SEMA and have a lot of work ahead of us in terms of that. Since this car is a 991.2 it comes with a lot of challenges when adding any upgraded parts. We can fairly easily run a kit like this and address the fueling and ignition issues on a 991.1 but on a 991.2 it is a lot more difficult to accomplish that.

This is a little over 3 weeks of work in the car. It has a Dodson clutch but it does not have internal engine parts yet as they are not available off the shelf. Everything is getting custom made and that does take some time.

Not exactly my cup of tea, but I LOVE to see people creating options and upgrade choices for the TTS, so I'll be following closely. Any suspension plans?

OK, so we received the connecting rods today for this car but I believe that we are going to have to go much further than just connecting rods. We have 2 monster Porsche builds we are attacking that are going to require a lot of custom parts to be made.

With the 991.2 we have many tuning hurdles that we have to overcome. We have some ideas on how to overcome these hurdles and should know if everything should work in the next 2-3 weeks. If we have the tuning for a very high output 991.2 figured out we should have some more news for you shortly.

We have really been regretting getting rid of the 991.1 for the 991.2 but we have been learning more from figuring out this 991.2 than we would ever learn working on the earlier car.
