To those who didn't try it... Just do it. It sounds scary, but in the end it's just like dropping the clutch at high revs in MT but without the burn out and without stressing the engine. Yes, believe me the engine doesn't sound stressed. The LC just tells the car to launch in precision without drama.
Here is a video taken by a friend when I demo'd LC for him even before my car was modded. Go to 45s to see the LC demo.

After all of the "no PDK for me" discussion, i waited to long to order the 991 GTS. All allocations are gone and they even removed it from the website. It looks like I may be purchasing a TT or TTS nonetheless. I realize the 991.2 will offer a MT but I don't think I want to take that risk on that first year production model. The only issue now is do I wait on the updated TT or go for it now. I can wait but how long will I have to wait. It looks like later in 2017 if Porsche goes along with the usual refresh cycle. I will not wait that long. If they could update the steering wheel and PCM that would be quite satisfying to me. I will find a way to live with the PDK I guess.

Porsche is updating both the steering wheel and the PCM display in the 991.2.

Just so you know if you get a strong tune you can no longer launch in launch control with your hands off the wheel. Especially if you stick with the stock Pzeros. If tuned you'll be fighting them to stay straight for a bit. If you have the Champion intercoolers and GIAC Stage 2 plus and have P Zeros and you go WOT from a stop you will be wrestling the steering wheel with both hands to stay pointed straight. But in stock form you sure can launch hands free

Yes, I was hoping they could do it in the TT next year to prevent me from waiting for the TT update.

Does the car have to be warmed up and driven around a bit before using LC?

Technically I suppose not. I can't imagine why anyone would want to. If you don't allow the engine and transaxle oil to come up to temperature before you hammer it you're seriously accelerating wear on engine and transaxle internals.

I will bet that the owner's manual tells you straight-up not to use LC until temps are normal.

Seriuosly? That's your answer?

I wonder if PWIS or the Durametric enable readout of oil temps during the last XX times launch control was used. I'll bet the former does.

I pity the poor soul that ends up with your 911 when you trade it.

I'm pretty certain Karl was just poking fun. I mean it was a pretty dumb question to ask. Let's face it, who would get into a stone cold car and launch its *** off...unless it was one's ex wife having a sly get even.

Yes, i do agree i would bring it up to temp.
But who could launch without driving to at least a suitable location.

Thanks in advance.
I have an Aim Solo for track use. It records 0-60. With Cup 2 tires, LC is good for 2.5 seconds all day. Just a hole shot without LC ...3.2-3.3 seconds. The difference in feel is really quite stunning with LC. I've done it a couple of dozen times, and the car loves it. However, I would never try it without my hands on the wheel. There is some degree of torque steer, depending on the pavement.

Everyone must go out today and give it a try if you have not!

November 2013, 12,000 miles, never used, just no interest in it. Not sure why, really. Maybe just no local drag strip...
