Many customers asked why we use an X pipe and why this kind of X pipe?
This will surely help understand better!
Here is a quick video of a lamina flow CFD model performed on our Porsche turbo system. I have attached picture also.

The colour scale on the side shows the gas velocity inside the exhaust. As you can see the cats contain the slowest moving gas, and consequently the highest pressure. The rest of the gas flow is pretty uniform, with slight acceleration through the X and the inside of the bends, resulting in slightly decreased pressure through the x pipe.
The graph below shows PRESSURE in black, TURBULENT KINETIC ENERGY light blue, and TURBULENT ENERGY DISSIPATION in cammo green.
Point A marks the start of the catalysts, point B the end of the catalysts and point C is the x pipe.
As can be seen between points A and B the cats result in an increase of pressure due to the larger cross section, preceding point A the pressure is steadily increasing due to the elevated pressure inside the cats causing a restriction. This restriction increases as the diameter of the cats increases.
Point A also marks where the turbulent kinetic energy increases sharply due to the turbulence created by the increased cross section of the catalysts. The larger the catalyst the greater the turbulence is and the greater the restriction.
After point B the gas velocity increases inside the tuned cross sections to reduce pressure and increase the efficiency of the exhaust. Turbulent kinetic energy peaks and begins to fall off as the gas tends toward a laminar flow
Point C, the x pipe marks the lowest pressure of the system to this point, and after c the pressure continues to normalize.
