after getting that crazy price from my porsche dealer on a oil change and decided to do it myself. i think i should purchase a scanner/code reader so i can keep up on some off the stuff on my car. problem is i do not know anything about them. what are the good ones? are they easy to use? what exactly do they do lol? also thinking about a slight tune, does this cause problems with which one i get?

Sounds like the JB4 is right up your alley. Simple PNP tune that will give lots of power and map change/logging ability right off your Iphone/Android device. You're also able to read and clear codes whenever needed.
