Default Time for brakes.. any experience with Ferodo? (Iron brakes)

Hey all,My brake pads and rotors are on their last legs. Started getting some pretty significant squealing and sticking on the front side.Looking at FCP Euro and they have OE quality iron rotors and either Textar pads or Ferodo pads (ds2500) along with genuine OEM. I do one maybe two track days a year.

Does anybody have any experience with these pads, particularly in regards to noise and dusting? This car is my daily driver during mild weather.

Also, any benefit to doing the rear brakes as well? They are in better shape and can certainly wait a little bit.

I have used Ferodo racing pads on my motorcycles for ages. They're amazing for brake feel and overall power.

Doesn't help you much with your Turbo but I can say they definitely know their stuff.

I've been using Hawk ceramic pads for steel rotors on my 991.2 Turbo, and also on my previous 991.2 C2S with X51 PowerKit. They are great, with very little brake dust. One of the trackrats in our PCA Region who also chairs many of our DEs, also uses em on his track Cayman S. They work great on his Cayman S track car, with minimal dust.

Hawk makes some pretty aggressive pads. I'd look up the rotor wear on those pads, Hawk Blues work amazing on track but they really wear rotors fast if they aren't kept up to heat, for example.

Is it safe to simply switch-out the OEM pads for the Hawk Ceramic pads, or would this be looking for trouble? I've got a new 718 Spyder and would like to put the Hawk Ceramics on it. A buddy of mine has the Hawk Ceramics on his GT4 and loves them...and as you indicated, they produce minimal dust compared to the OEM pads.

Thanks. Actually...I've got about 120 miles total on my new Spyder...80 miles of which were on our local uncrowded interstate with ZERO stop 'n go driving. I was just concerned about bedding-in the rotors, etc.

You will have to bed the new pads, to the specification of Hawk, but that should be fairly straight forward.

It depends on your number of DE days and level. DS2500 are a combination street/track pad, but IMO more street than track. I ran a set of DS1.11s and while they work well I got fewer track days from the fronts than expected (6). I moved to Pagid RS29s, equivalent to Ferodo DS 3.12s, and they seem to be lasting much longer. FCP Euro has started to sell Pagid RS29s so my next set will be from them. I've warrantied two sets of Sebro slotted. It cost $50+ to ship them. I had to ship the old ones back, but FCP Euro gave me a full warranty refund on the DS1.11s when they stopped selling them.

I've done bedding before the track and at the track. Doesn't seem to be much difference. Its hard to find an open street/highway to (legally) bed the pads. The DS1.11s seldom squeaked on the street or track. The RS29s are almost as quiet. In my experience a lot of street miles between events wears off the bedding film and they start to squeak.

For me the limiting factor for street miles is the negative front camber (-2.5). I leave the track pads on year round and put the 20s back on after the track season.

I would be cautious about using the DS2500 on a Turbo on track. These cars are very fast and on the heavier side and you will likely exceed the temperature threshold these pads were designed for resulting in brake fade. Lighter / slower cars can get away with using the DS2500 on track, but I typically try to steer customers away from that. They are good on the street and will play nice with the more aggressive Ferodo compounds if you are willing to swap back and forth a few times a year.

With that said, there are alot of factors involved including your driving style, tires, how aggressive you are with the brakes, and the tracks you will be running, but if I was you I would not track a 991 Turbo on DS2500. The DS1.11 would be the better option for track use.
