Damn, that looks like "my buddy can do it cheaper" kind of thing. The fact that someone is charging $8,500 with those welds is just mind blowing...

Default Part 2 - Manifolds, Exhaust, & Turbos

Part 2 - Manifolds, Exhaust, & Turbos

Let me just start out by saying that the ByDesign Team has so many different options out there from the Kline SS version which is very budget friendly to the Inconnel Extended Version to the XR-Spec Version which I'll be using. The extended version provides me with a few benefits from a shorter exhaust, to more room on the front of the turbo for a bigger filter as you can measure a considerable gain going away from the normal intake track layout. I don't recommend this intake setup but for the hardcore racers who want to squeeze every bit out.
One thing you can definitely see is the Bydesign Exhaust manifold is that it has been meticulously designed with the use of computer modeling and dyno results. The byproduct of this is a equal length manifold, properly sized runners to fit the needs of your power levels, exquisite transitions which assist in un interrupted airflow getting to the turbine, and ease of install (in my experience some companies care less about how hard it is to get the bolts in and tightened as with my previous header shared below.
Another big advantage is the weight from the SS to the inconnel versions; they are all substantially lighter than my previous manifold.
This is a comparison of the ByDesign SS manifold to my old exhaust manifolds.

You can really see the design differences, quality, and material used.

When you start really pushing your system you will begin to see any weak links in design, wastegate placement, and back pressure. You can also see differences in spool. As with my old manifolds you can see the wastegate placement and transitions were kind’ve just thrown together. This would cause issues in maintaining commanded boost pressure etc.

This is the inconel XR extended exhaust Manifold. The XR-spec going on the car I will not be showing at this time.

My previous builder chose to use uncoated bolts with the manifold so I decided to upgrade to the good stuff! ARP studs

When it came to my exhaust, I decided to go with the lightest option available. So I decided to do a 4” Titanium exhaust straight out the back. I did this to limit any possibility of any back pressure developing. Being that I'm using the Bydesign XR-spec manifold my exhaust run is less than 2ft out.

Lastly….. Turbos!

A lot of back and forth took place between Sam, Xona, and I for what would fit my goal and have room for some future stuff. What we came up with are some XR-Spec Xona echo series turbos that will make sure things get pressurized and also not cause too many issues on the back end with backpressure (these motors are incredibly sensitive to this.)
Just for reference, my previous turbos pictured on the right are Xona 8264S turbos. The new turbos are substantially bigger on the Compressor and turbine side Best thing is my spool-up time will be dramatically reduced compared to what my old setup was thanks to all the components playing their part so perfectly now.

All lines for oil and water to the turbo are converted over to AN line since we are relocating the turbos.

Looking forward to seeing the end result. It's funny though, that we are getting mostly the same platforms lol.

Your fab guy is awesome. On the exhaust manifolds there’s a baggie with titanium studs, washers and nuts for a cleaner install too.
Always ARP on the By Design intake manifold.

ARP studs just make assembly/disassembly so much easier especially in the tight spots.

Doing a little testing fitting of these big boys 😮

Also finish up my 2 stage catch can setups as I found the stock system to lack once you really start pushing things. Found a perfect place to tuck everything in as space in the back is very tight 🙌🏾

Next I'll finish all the oil and water lines to the turbos, and finally finish the vanjens from turbos to intercoolers 😊
