Front Turbo S spoiler split - repair options
#31
After reading this thread, I was a little apprehensive to check out my 2019 991.2 Turbo's front spoiler. I've only had this car for about 1 1/2 months. And the verdict is, .... no damage.

I’ve only just noticed the 992 spoiler has been redesigned with ‘fillets’ in the front I guess to reduce tension at the front margin. I think the ‘one-piece’ of the 991 is under such tension that any ‘nick’ or defect in the leading edge will enlarge into the V or W split several of us have experienced. Also affirms my belief that Porsche are ‘aware’ of this issue 👀

I noticed the modification to the 992 spoiler as well at a recent PCA event. I'm thinking the little relief cuts that appear to reduce the tension in the spoiler every time it is deployed and retracted.

Replacement Front Turbo S Spoiler
Where did you find this part for $1600? I can’t find it anywhere for that price.

I think so - a feature of aging rubber with cyclical stretch and contract rather than abrasive trauma.
I had the same and contemplated repair but the material is very tough, like a tire carcass. I dont think there is any adhesive repair that would work, maybe an epoxy plus mechanical reinforcement such as stitching. Filling in the defect with silicone might improve the cosmetic appearance but its 'papering over the cracks'
I got mine replaced because it bugged me and I got the selling dealer to go halves but in retrospect probably would have saved my money. The spare part is around $1600 from the usual 3rd party suppliers

I may try this repair on my spoiler which has a split also. In addition to using the Permatex optimum Max Flex Gasket Maker to fill the gap, I am thinking about using hot staples or kevlar thread to close the gap before filling it.
