Default 6 month ownership... Mixed feelings - time to move on already now?

So, I have had my 991.1 Turbo S for about 6 months now and it's a mixed bag of feelings tbh.

The car has gone 89'700 km (it had 86'500 when I picked it up back in April 2020) and is in perfect working order. It has all the bells and whistles I could want/need except for the odd missing bits and pieces here and there...

So, I'm honestly thinking of maybe already now swapping it to a either a same model with a few "missing" and additional extras (and differences) to my current 991.1 Turbo S OR maybe go with a 991.2 GTS.

Why?

1) Well, my better half more or less refuses to sit i the Turbo S because it has yellow seatbelts and yellow stitching. She hates it and I can understand where she's coming from (no need bash out at her). If I need to use our volvo she needs to be able to drive the 911...
2) For her to drive the car she MUST hav reversing camera available. Parking here can be stressful at times with buildings and (paved) roads from medieval times...
3) For my own sake, the engine is a tad to powerfull for my usage tbh. I can pull some places but mostly impossible because of speeding cameras everywhere in this country (Switzerland). I don't do race tracks.
4) I know it's not an argument per se, and not a deal breaker by any means, but I would like to have Apple Car play (991.2 onwards I know) as we have this in our 2020 Volvo XC60 and I find it brilliant for my use.
5) The H&R lowered spring/suspension is doing my head in...

What are my options:

I have found

1) 2 x 991.1 Turbo S' with 9'500 km and 15'500 km on the clock, all black leather interior (and carbon fiber trim - looks fine) and same option list (more or less) incl. reversing camera. Doesn't have entry & drive which is more than fine with me tbh - Not sure if Bose or Burmester but tbh I don't care as I can't hear anything anyway when driving. Both are priced in the CHF 125'000 - 130'000 (same in USD) range.
2) 1 x 991.2 GTS with 26'000 km on the clock, but with alcantara (not sure if I like this or not tbh - any pointers?) and ok option list. It has a 90 Liter (24 US Gallons) optional petrol tank which is a plus... This is priced around CHF 120'000

So my reasoning here is:

1) The car stil has ½ year of Porsche Approved warranty left on it, things were fixed (door handle - Entry and Drive & GPS antennae)
2) The car has gone just under 90'000km (56'000 miles)
3) It is in need of service in 6 months time, and I believe this is bigger one of the sorts(?)
4) I would need the springs/suspension all swapped out
5) Would need to to do something about the "yellow" accents
6) Trying to keep the loss at a minimum as I only have had it for 6 months and only added around 3'000 km (1'860 miles) as a swap at my local OPC for one of the above found vehicles.
I paid around CHF 110'000 at the dealership so hoping he would buy it back at CHF 100'000 and I would fork out the difference for either another low milage Turbo S (w/o any "exotic colour accents) or GTS as described earlier... Not sure if they would accept the CHF 100K buy price...

Any thoughts? Am I too far out?

I was in a similar situation with my wife and a house we built. She was insisting the kitchen be remodeled, even though it was new. The modifications would not have improved the house in most people's eyes. I used algebra to make the decision:

W1 = $x3 + GA

W2 = $ + 1/2 GA + DC

GA = General Aggravation
DC = Divorce Cost
W1 = Current Wife
W2 = Replacement W

Math doesn't lie, I went with a replacement wife. YMMV.

Absolutely make yourself happy. Money is just a number. Decide what would really make you happy driving every day and the wife happy driving every day........and trade the old for a new experience.

Guess it depends on your DC in this case?

I love the OP's post. It brings me quite a bit of humor ! We need more of this on RL. Also he raises some good points.
Good to see over 55000 miles and doing great. Great durability on these cars from what I can see. I had my 991.2 TTS out last night. I love driving the car at night for some reason. It's like a stealth rocket ship. Of course it doesn't defeat radar but you know what I mean.

I've never driven a 991.1 TTS but from all accounts, the 991.2 TTS and even 991.2 TT is better in every way...Apple carplay, suspension and engine tweaks, and so on.
You should drive a 991.2 GTS with PDK- very very good performance AND lighter on its feet. When I drove a new one it was much quicker than my 991.1 GTS with NA engine. You have to like Alcantara.

Have you considered a 992 S ? Even more tech and basically same speed as 991.2 GTS. But you have to like that honker rear end, which is not for everyone. Kinda like Fran Drescher. Not for everyone. Hot, yes. Annoying? Maybe.

As for yellow accents- I personally like yellow stitch and yellow belts and hate red accents. If she hates the yellow accents, take her for a ride in a 991.2 GT3 and see how much she hates that! ha

If I lived in Switzerland I might consider a 991.2 GTS 4 Cabriolet, just saying. Or, I'm going to say it- 991.2 Targa GTS.

there's a guy down the street from me that has a gray Targa GTS. It's positively a hot car.

The 992 rear end is the equivalent of the 996.1 front and doesn’t do it for me, and guess that’s also one reason I’d like to get the "last" good looking rear end - for now...

Hahaha... Love your Fran D reference 😁

Trade it in. Or trade your wife in. Or trade both in. Just kidding and no offense but I can understand someone not "liking" or even "disliking" yellow seatbelts. But refusing to sit in the car. Wow!

Life's too short for a car to cause you aggravation.

The deal breaker is that you say the car has too much HP for you. There is no reason to have a Turbo (with a capital T) if you don't like power. I would get a 991.2 C4S or whatever variant works for you. Why get a GTS a C4S will be fast enough and no Alcantara. Appleplay is something i do miss.

You would have to spend a lot of CHF's to change the seatbelts and stitching, take out the springs, put in an aftermarket car play plus backup camera. If you loved the power and performance i'd do it. But you don't - easy decision.

I say change the seatbelts to a color you like probably black. Add Apple CarPlay and a reverse camera aftermarket.

I am curious, why did you buy the car in the first place?
did your wife have any input on the initial decision?
Is the car faster than what you thought?
just the lure of owning a Porsche Turbo?

1. Yellow seatbelts - these can be changed: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/991DBELTS.html

2. Yellow stitching - you can use a marker pen to change the color - they have been doing this mod on Corvettes for years: https://www.corvettemods.com/Leather...s%20ad%20group

3. Apple carplay: can add a kit from joye2auto or carplay2air, the guys on 991 forum seem to have good success with it: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1045...91-1-a-67.html

4. Reverse camera: many aftermarket options here, too numerous to list

You'll get wrecked on trade-in value, especially if you try to go through a dealer. You'll need to compare this cost versus the effort involved in doing the above and decide if it's worth it.

Personally, I could never go back to a "regular" 911 after having had a TT

You make very good points!

I didn't know about the color marker pen
My 991.1 TTS had yellow stitching and yellow seat belts and I hated those fargen' things.

Very very good points and questions @LAJ_996

1) I was made believe that the 911 Turbo was my dream car, and all of a sudden the 991.1 Turbo S popped up. Gave it a test drive (beautiful sunny spring day at the start of the COVID-19 days so empty motorway) and thought it was brilliant. My brain had been left in the 997.2 C4S at the dealership and only brought my heart along for the ride. Not quite impulse buy (I had the arguments ready) but leaning towards it...
2) Nope. She was fine with me swapping the 997.2 C4S to a newer vehicle
3) Yes. The car is faster than what I thought it would be, on day to day basis (if it makes sense). I don't drive it as a daily but I often find myself going way too fast and it also catches too much attention for my liking (sounds strange I know).
4) I'd say so yes (see point 1 above)

So lessons learnt: The Turbo S is a fantastic car but one thing I have taken with me through ownership is, that ultra mega fast acceleration (power) is not everthing I thought it would be, and handling is not much different from other 911's from the same era I have driven (meaning they are great). Don't get me wrong the Turbo S is an amazing car, but it just isn't for me after all.

The excitement curve did not point upwards as it should as it did with my 997.2 C4S PDK, but OK I came from a 996.2 C4S MT, but rather went up for a few months, then flattened out and now pointing downwards. I thought I was going to love the car more going forward (as some of my earlier posts insinuates) but it's just not there anymore... :-(

I was maybe a bit harsh saying that my better half would not sit in the car - of course she will but she is not happy with it and worst is she doesn't want to drive it as it's too powerfull (I respect her for that)...

To all the others commented on this post, thank you so much for taking your time in doing so. I appreciate all the ideas and possibilities available (I have looked them as well), but not worth it in the end.

I have sent my OPC asking for a 2018 GTS test drive this week (before winter really kicks in) so let's see what happens.

Again, thanks all for you input. Really appreciate it... Take care and stay safe (both in your Turbo's and from COVID-19).

Hi Op,
I'm also from Switzerland and have a 51k km 991.1 tts from 2015.
Not sure you'll get 100k. I asked many garages as I was envisaging trading mine, the highest I got was 107k as trade in price.

I would definitely say that if you are considering just swapping for another 991.1 tts with your wanted features, it's just better to as them than to switch the car..
