Default Purchase Porsche's 10 year extended warranty?

Hey guys,

Disclaimer, I've searched the forum and others but the best thread I read on the topic was on the 996 and 997 with RMS and other issues. Ok, back to the point.

Long time lurker on this forum. Next week, I'm picking up a white CPO 2017 991.2 TTS next week from a dealer out of state. CPO warranty expires in May of 2023.

I plan to keep the car for a long time and was offered the 10 year Platinum extended warranty from Porsche, ending in 2027, for $7640. Was able to negotiate it down to $6000. There's a $250 deductible.

But I'm also somewhat conflicted. I live in NJ and approximately 20 minutes from Aim performance. The idea of basic tune and exhaust also sounds great.

Should I get it? Does $6000 sound good for an additional 4 years (2023 through 2027)? Are the 991.2 as bulletproof and reliable as some say? Should I save my money and use the $6000 for a tune and exhaust after the CPO expires? What would you do? Ugh, so many questions lol

Ps: I also paid $2840 for tire and wheel protection for 84 months that I believe will definitely pay for itself.

Thank you to all and please don't flame the new guy

I bought the Porsche warranty. 10y and 100 deductible. I think was like 4 or 5k. No brainer. These cars are expensive to fix.

Thanks for the response.

I advised the financial manager that I'd let him know of my decision, if I reach one, when picking up the vehicle. I also thank you for stating the approximate price. I'll try to negotiate the price down some more and if he says no, then I'll advise him that I'll wait until May of 2021 to make my decision.

I'm still reading Rennlist's numerous threads and members opinions.

Nice thing about the tire and wheel protection is that you can cancel and receive pro-rated refund......check the policy you bought against cosmetic rash damage, on whether it is covered....I had tire and wheel coverage for about the same price - $2500 and cosmetic was not covered, so I cancelled after 6 months......read the small print on that warranty because they all are different despite Porsche dealers.....rash damage can be repaired for under $200 and the wheel looks perfect......

If you destroy a wheel, a Turbo S wheel on ebay or a OEM wheel vendor can be as low as $ 1,000 each or $ 2000 for four wheels, if you need an OEM wheel....there are plenty for sale on ebay as guys go for aftermarket wheels - HRE, BBS or Victor, etc.........

I would put the money for the tire and wheel insurance against the 10 year warranty and negotiate down as you plan.....go for $ 5K and use the tire and wheel money more effectively......

Good luck with your decision and the new car.......it is a fantastic daily driver......

Your current OEM warranty expires in a year and then 2 years of CPO until 2023 ( I guess) so the other 4 years of warranty to 2027 is costing you $6000, right? What I would do instead is, wait until you are about to end your CPO (2024) and then get a Fidelity 7/75 for no more than $6-7,000 extending your warranty to 2031

Who's the underwriter of the extended warranty from Porsche, it's definitely not by Porsche that's for sure not to mention, $250 deductible is insane, heck no way I would pay that much deductible.
What's the current mileage and how much are you planning on driving/year?

If you plan to keep it stock I guess it would be a good reselling point for a private sale, and peace of mind, but if you plan to make the car fun and fast by modding it then pass on the extended warranty

I was hooked instantly after test driving it. I previously has googly eyes for a 18-20 E63s but after test driving an M5 and the 911, omg!

I plan on keeping the tire and wheel protection plan because I believe I might need a wheel or 2 and some tires replaced in 84 months.

I had the guys at AIM do a PPI on another non dealer 911 TTS and they did a thorough job in the maybe 2 hours they had the vehicle. They even found exterior issues that I missed even after I saw the vehicle twice before. Needless to say, I didn't go for the vehicle and went the CPO route.

I'll def be taking the TTS to them eventually.

I believe it's Porsche branded but through Safeguard. I plan on putting approximately 5K miles annually.

Not a bad idea

I want to thank all the Rennlist family for the responses. I appreciate you guys not bashing or cursing me out for asking the question. I've concluded that I'll hold off on paying $6000 for 4 years. I had the weekend to really think about it and I'l keep the vehicle stock until the end of the CPO term (5/2023). Afterwards, I'll most likely pursue a tune, exhaust and possibly ICs. I don't have the car yet and I'm already thinking what it must feel like with those basic mods.

Car looks great. I think the warranty that is comes with is enough. As said before these cars are pretty solid.
