You don't need to remove the emblems, nor do you need to carefully tape around the letters... Just block off an area and cover whatever might get overspray, put on a few coats of plasti-dip, then 'peel' the area surrounding the letters. Plasti-dip has a way of just tearing cleanly at any transition point making it pretty easy. Just make sure you put on enough coats, if it's too thin, it doesn't work correctly.

Not having to deal with properly aligning the lettering on re-intstall is perhaps the best argument for trying plasti-dip. I know there is a template, but I've seen plenty of botched installs where the re-installed letters are not perfect, and I guess I'd rather have perfectly aligned letters with a slightly less than perfect finish than perfectly finished letters that are installed anything less than perfect.

I decided to color match mine as the chrome drove me nuts, did the headlight washers as well.

pfbz, thanks for showing us how simple this is. I will give that a go. I have nothing to loose if i don't like the looks of it. But, as stated i would much rather have perfectly straight and less than flawless gloss black than cocked or unevenly spaced letters.

Seems like a good option.

they gave you inaccurate information. gloss black was a Porsche exclusive option which is why it's expensive (at least that's how they attempt to justify it). it is a really nice gloss finish and certainly looks better than plasti-dip. for anyone interested here is the part number for the black Porsche Turbo S emblem kit: 991-044-803-85-041

Funny the things that bother us; I have never considered changing this - if I were to though, the stealth look with nothing would be appealing.

I like the simplicity of the 996/997 “turbo”.

Completely agree... Perhaps the simplest and best Porsche badging ever?

Of course now muddled with Cayenne Turbos, Macan Turbos, Panamera Turbos and even the ridiculously named Taycan Turbo, but once upon a time, when you saw a Porsche with a Turbo badge, those five letters meant only one thing....
