Default Roof Rack Capability ?

Hello Rennlisters,

I am a previous owner of a 991.2 TTS and traded it , eventually ending up with a GT3 PDK. That was too racy for me so I got rid of it and looking to get back into a 991.2 TTS now that the market will ( hopefully ) soften a bit with the presence of the 992 TTS. My question is - what is the roof rack capability of these cars ? I surf and throw the boards on top ( currently riving a macan GTS ) .. but hoping to turn in the macan at lease end and pick one of these up as my all around do everything one car awesomeness. Any comments appreciated !

Porsche sells a kit with two lockable independent cross beam rails that mount to flip up tabs that are hidden under the weather stripping running along the edges of the roof on each side. You should see some pre-cut slots in the weather stripping where you can pull it up.

The "capability" of the roof rack kit is limited to 145lbs, so it's not like you can put a big Thule/Yakima cargo box up there and fill it with beer.

Sorry, this is something I cannot answer with certainty. I don't know if all 991s have the roof rack tabs. Mine did, but I ordered the kit when I specced the car. A 911 wearing a roof rack is such a rare creature I wouldn't even be surprised if your dealer doesn't know for sure off the top of their head.

Perhaps someone who did NOT order the roof rack kit can see if they have the mounting tabs hidden under the weather stripping?

Based on my research, all 991s except the GT3 have the tabs under the weather stripping to mount the roof rack.

Interestingly, with the 992 you MUST now order one with a sunroof to get the ability to have a roof rack.

It’s made by LockRack and it nicely locks the board in place. I have the rack mounted on the OEM Porsche roofracky and the only thing I needed to do was to put a couple washers between the racks to give the locking arms more clearance. Works great!

I use my racks on my 991.1 all the time for surfing, works great. I've had two large board bags (4 surfboards total) up there cranking down the highway at 80 no problem.

definitely an awesome option to have.
