Hey RL, what should I do w/my 991.2
I've got a 992 arriving late this year and my pre-pandemic plans were to sell/trade my 991.2 at the end of the year. Like many of us, however, I've barely driven my 2019 TTS for the past few months (maybe 3 times since March) and I don't have plans for any nice, long road trips thanks to the pandemic, so I anticipate that my car will mostly just sit in the garage on a battery-tender slowly depreciating. Should I look into selling it now to someone who would be able to enjoy it this summer driving season? Porsches _need_ to be driven! It has nearly 13k miles already (because I enjoyed it a lot last year) but it's still flawless. If I trade it in I'm sure to get the lowball trade-in value, but in my state I get to offset that against our 10% sales tax if I trade within 30 days of a like-for-like purchase - past experience tells me to expect a valuation difference of at least 10% from summer to winter. Would I get more overall net value selling now vs. later in the year? What does the carnut gallery think?

If you are not going to drive it then sell it online, start now to give it time to sell. Calculate how much you have to sell for now to make up for the discount tax wise on trade. If you can't get that amount then wait and trade. In the mean time it sounds like you enjoy it, go drive! The 991.2 TTS is am amazing car!

Doesn't sound like differential between trade and private sale will really end up mattering much to you, and since you are asking for suggestions, list it for sale and cut a deal with forum member here and let them enjoy the car

I would list it at a price that is significantly more than your expected trade in value including tax savings.
If it doesn't sell at that price then trade it in
If it doesn't sell at that price then trade it in

Trade it in.
Private sales are a pain in the ***. Not worth the extra $$$ or the time.

My 2c. Given that you bought a 2019 99.1 TTS and are buying a brand new 992 TTS very soon after, money is not the primary issue in your life . Also, trying to sell a very high end used car on your own for a few $K extra is a royal pain in the a$s. Test drives, PPI's etc. Given you will get a good trade in tax benefit (frankly living in CA we dont get that) i would keep and drive during the summer. The .2 is an awesome car and why miss out on fun while you wait for the 992. Drive it, i dont think a couple K miles will have any material impact to resale. Unless you can pre-trade it in now and get the tax breaks when the 992 comes in (not sure how that works), if you want it gone and dont want to drive it.

Thanks for the responses, all!
I did a little bit of searching around to get a sense of the market - and it looks pretty soft. The 1st year depreciation on these cars is just insane (not a surprise, I knew that already). Considering the tax offset against the 992, I bet I'd be lucky to net even $10k more selling privately, but that's likely to be a huge hassle. It's probably worth that much to keep the car if I can find a way to drive and enjoy it. My typical road trip is 2k-3k miles or more, and I wasn't thinking I'd be able to plan one or two of those this summer, but I could scale it back ... Utah really is my favorite state when it comes to driving enjoyment - but I guess I don't really have to drive all the way to the Mexican border every single trip. There must be some good roads in Washington somewhere...
The other idea (if I can convince my wife) is to _keep_ the 991.2 - I'd simply have to kick another lesser car out of the garage and into the driveway. Has anyone owned a pair of very similar 911s? Would I wind up just picking a favorite and rarely driving one of them?

Yeah I take back the online selling. Was just being polite. Keep it and trade when you get new car.
I have had three Boxster’s at once and drove them all but if I had two TTS I would only drive both if one was a Cab and the other a Coupe.
What poor car would be pushed outside? 😀

Well, here's how the story ends...
I _love_ driving my 911 on extended road trips across the western US, but it's just not gonna happen this year...
So I decided to tick off a completely different bucket list item: own something cool with a V12.
I swapped my TTS (+ some cash) for an F12 berlinetta.
That's the kind of car I will NOT be driving long distance all around the US this summer, but it will be fun for local day trips. Plus, it'll be something completely different while I wait for my new TTS to arrive at the end of the year. My wife said I could NOT own two 911s, but I can apparently own this car and also one 911. Who knew? I think she makes up the rules as she goes.
The spot in my garage that looked like this:
now looks like this:
This thing is a monster. Very different. The 911 is actually better in some ways (steering, transmission), but that engine... wow.
