Default AWD System

Seems like a stupid question but, If I did a bunch of donuts would it destroy the front diff? did it with Macan S and got a warning for PDK overheat?

My GTR's front diff eats itself when you do too many donuts and you can tell when it no longer hooks on launch. Looking to trade my GTR for a 992 Turbo S when they come out.

I wish I could help, but I don't ever do donuts in my TTS. Maybe others can offer some advice, but it's not a topic that's routinely discussed on these forums.

Definitely not a common question haha. Another question is how much torque can the OEM front diff and gearbox hold?

Lots and lots.

I'd like to watch you do a bunch of doughnuts, however, I have no idea what would happen because I have not tried to do a bunch of doughnuts.

Bad wording by me. Not necessarily a bunch of donuts, exaggerating because on my GTR, the front diff would heat up after a lot of wheel spin and would make the car go into limp mode , just wondering if the AWD 911s have the same problem since the Macan did the samething. Hoping the occasional snow drifts won't damage anything.

I think that would be just fine.

Eat the donuts, drive the car, don't play with it like it's a FWD Honda.
It will take you around the track at scary speeds get the jollies that way.

In the snow it shouldn't be a problem. Haven't done it in a Porsche...but plenty in other cars. I think many replies didn't realize you were talking in the snow.

Making a mental note not to buy a used vehicle from Phangstaz.

There’s a drift course at PEC to practice. It’s weird / hard on the AWD to do this. I mean hard on the driver, the awd are so forgiving and just want to help you go fast and straight. The car is rated for more than I could abuse it.

One of the magazines did over 50 straight launches in a TTS with no issue, while the GTR could only do a few before it had issues. I suspect the Porsche will be fine. Worst case, you get the same warning. Now you don't need to find out.

I remember my 997 C4S had a neat hidden feature where you could click the parking brake hand-lever up to the first notch and it would disable the AWD system and turn your car into a RWD vehicle. It would be nice if this was still possible to do with current 911's.

That was Road and Track; they apparently did 63 without any problems...
