Default Opinions - 20" vs 21" & Offset/Tire Sizing

Hi all,

Forgive me if this has been beaten to death. I attempted a search and didn't find threads with good answers...

My forthcoming 991.1 Turbo S has 5 lug 20" Turbo wheels on it. Although they're pretty nice for OEM wheels, I can never seem to live with OEM.

I plan to get new wheels and am leaning towards staying with 20" for the presumably better ride quality and handling. At the same time, I see lots of guys running 21".

This will be a street driven car only and I may lower on Techart or Eibach springs and add a DSC module.

Thoughts on pro's and con's for going with 20" vs. 21"?
- Is there a significant ride or handling quality difference (especially on a lowered vehicle)?
- Significant cost delta on wheels/rubber?
- Availability of rubber selection?
- Other?

Thoughts on more aggressive wheel and rubber sizing?
- Stick with 20x9 ET45 and 20x11.5 ET40 wheel sizes?
- Stick with 245/35/29 and 305/30/20 rubber?
- I see guys running 12" rears with 305 rubber that looks pretty stretched to me and I wouldn't want that
- Any different 20" wheel sizes, offsets and rubber combo's that you'd recommend?

Thank you for the help and input!

I was asking your same questions about two months ago.
I decided to go with the 21” as the ride difference is negligible and the look much better.
I have ordered the brand new HRE S101-SC that you commented about on sixspeedonline.
sizes are as follows:
21x9.5 ET45 255/30/21 (5mm closer to fender than GT3 RS)
21x12.5 ET48 325/25/21 (exact spec for GT3 RS)
no rubbing
Talk to Wheel Boutique or Wheel Enhancement for excellent service, knowledge and pricing.
Good luck!

Bear in mind the GT3RS wears 325/30/21 in the rear, that’s 4” taller, 2” closer to the fender.

I had HRE 21” P101’s and 300 Classics on my 991.1 TTS. No issues what so ever and I didn’t notice a difference in ride quality. Car was lowered as well.

I am running the GT2 setup 20 in front (with a 245 not 265) and 21 in the rear.
I haven't had a problem and I am on Bilsteins dropped to the ground

I have 21's as well, lowered on Techart's, no detectable ride difference and no issues, I do use FAL on occasion for steep inclines but don't bottom out when driving

What wheel sizes, offsets and tire sizes are you running?

HRE P101 21"
9.5 front
12.5 rear
offsets are 46 and 48 if I remember right

running Pirelli PZero's 255/30/ZR21 front and 325/25/ZR21 rear
plan on switching to Michelin P4s in the future

Thanks, appreciate the input/help.

I really prefer to run more aggressive kinds of rubber and those sizes seem to limit you to pretty much the two choices you've outlined. Have you seen anything else besides Pzero's or P4S in those sizes?
