Default Wheels for TT - Advice.

Given i am really enjoying my TT, I think she's a keeper vs going .2 or 992 (.2 is better but not sure i want to spend the $$ for a nominal improvement). My .1 with the Cobb AP - is doing it for me. So mods are in order. Have done tune and headers / exhaust..

I am thinking its time to add some wheels. Yes - I have read multiple threads on wheels and think i am narrowing my choices to the BBS FiR or the HRE101 LW. Both look great. My car is silver. 1) If you think i should really consider something else - let me know why 2) Any suggestions for color of wheel or any other advice you would have. I have 5 lugs. Thanks in advance for any help / thoughts.

Had many sets of HRE's, only had BBS's on my 86' Corvette and 86' turbo porsche, last 5 YEARS Forgeline wheels, light weight, super strong and much easier to get custom finishes, and deal with than many of the other wheel companies

Wheel preferences are subjective, as you know. One person may love something hat another person hates. You need to make three major decisions when buying new wheels:
  1. What style do you like? The BBS FI-R as shown above is a very popular style, and it looks great on the 991 cars. Many wheel manufacturers produce a similar style. You can’t go wrong with a wheel like that, but perhaps you want something unique.
  2. What color and finish will look best with your car? This decision is almost more difficult that the style decision. Do you want a dark wheel for a muted or monotone look, or do you want a wheel that will “pop” and offer some contrast with your paint? Do you want a glossy finish, or a satin finish? How can you coordinate the wheel finish with the other design elements of your specific car?
  3. What size and offset do you prefer? Do you want bigger wheels compared to the OE sizes? Do you want a more aggressive offset?
When I bought my wheels, I went through this process. I wanted a style similar to the BBS FI-R. I like wider, “10-spoke” designs. I wanted a contrasting color that would look good on a Mahogany Brown Metallic car and would pop (I chose champagne gloss clear coat), and I wanted to stick with OE sizes. I wanted a more aggressive offset than the stock wheels. Answering these questions led me down the path to the wheels that I have now.

The final consideration is obviously cost. Your budget will help narrow your choices to a more reasonable range.

Good luck with the decision! I love wheel shopping.

You could spend a lot if you want. I think for the money my Vorsteiner are good. The BBS posted are like $9000? Idk what mine weigh. I had the opportunity to weigh them when I switched them over from summer to winter but didn't have a scale with me. I guess in hind sight I could have bought one of the luggage scales and taken it to the shop.

We recommend a nice set of quality BBS wheels.. FI-R are very popular.

Let us know if you would like some pricing on them!

They most certainly fill out the arches quite nicely.

It's great having a car that has been out for a few years because it allows you to draw inspiration from what others have done with their wheel choices. We've helped create some really cool setups over time as you can see from our 991 customer gallery here - https://wheelsboutique.com/galleries/991

A few of my favorites are below. From top to bottom: HRE R101 lightweights, ANRKY AN15, ANRKY AN30.

[QUOTE=WheelsB;16126225]

Your Vorsteiner's weigh 26.6 lbs & 28.1 lbs each.
So the fronts weigh more than the stock sport classic by about 2 lbs and the rears are about a pound lighter. I would have thought the Vorsteiner wheels would have been lighter

From another thread “my OEM wheels weigh 24 lbs front and 29.5 lbs rear, 20”
