Default Cheap mod

I was bored so I ordered the red tape from Amazon for the 12'o clock position. Actually doesn't look to bad ......blends well with this other red accents in the car. Porsche make this happen going forward. Tape 1/2 inches cost me 15.00 bucks ......the stuff is not easy to find. Thanks to the OP that said go to Amazon. I have a full roll of this stuff to last a lifetime.

Looks good, what's special about said tape? Is it a vinyl tape? I was thinking on doing the same with my wheel.

Just saw a 991 S at the dealer with some kind of factory installed sport package. Wheel had the 1/2" red leather center section! Don't know why not available to GT3s. I'm going to experiment with tape also.

Has anyone found the right color spike tape to match the Orange needle on the tach?

My other option is the use White to match as close as possible the platinum stitching.

In case you're interested, you can now order this 12 o'clock stripe on the steering wheel from the factory as a CXX (Exclusive) option. It has been approved on the alcantara wheel in both red and yellow (perhaps also in leather, but I'm not 100% sure of this last point for the GT3). Red first showed up on a GT3 a while ago (photo 1), but I have not seen one delivered yet in yellow. BTW, I believe the "basic" 12 o'clock stripe CXX option for the GT3 would come with black stitching, but not surprisingly you can also order deviated stitching (cost extra). It is possible to get this on other 991 variants as you point out (I saw this on a birch green 911 at the factory, previously posted on RL), and one can do all sorts of amazing things (photo 2, a fantastic certainly one-of-a-kind example, which has both red and white stitching-- sorry the photo doesn't show the white stitching well).

It seems to me that while CXX options offer a lot of latitude when it comes to customization, the process is quite a bit more opaque and elusive than even PTS. But the journey would definitely make for a cool life experience, if you're into that sort of thing, and would make the car uniquely yours. Oh, and you also should prepare to be more or less insensitive to cost. It is quite expensive, even by Porsche standards IMO.

Problem is, it's far too late for 99% of us to get it straight from the factory.

Yeah $3000 or $15, Hmmmmmm!!!!!

I will be going the cheaper route, that's for sure. $3000 for a 5/8" X 3 1/2 " piece of dyed alcantara. Whew! That a bit strong huh!

Home Depot, 5 color pack (red, yellow, blue, black and white) of 1/2" vinyl tape. I think it was about $5.00. Had same stuff on other cars for years.
