I was riding dirt bikes but after one particularly knarly jump i forgot where i had left my bike in the air.. somehow it was flying next to me and i was solo.... (wily coyote on a rocket style).. landed on my feet from a pretty high altitude and disintegrated my left foot.. bike landed next to me happily and kept rolling....
So i went to visit Nicky Hayden's (motogp rider)'s doctor, and i had a massive plate put in my foot.. doctor told me "it was normal" that i would lose all sub-talar (side to side) motion in it.. so i did exercises every day to restore it.. wrenching my foot side to side and doing rotating exercises until one day, motion was basically restored, and it was almost back to matching what my other foot was doing.
so i went back to the doctor and after an xray he told me i had broken all the titanium screws holding the plate in. i told him i wanted surgery to remove plate and screws.. long surgery where he dug into my foot to back out the broken screws.. years of pain, 5 years later, full motion in that foot restored even though it's arthritic as hell.. but at least it's not fused.

Anybody have advise on achilles tendinitis? Can I keep riding? How long does it typically take to heal?
Seems I was riding with my cleats slammed forward and did some damage.
Trying to heal up so I can shred miles in Italy in a few weeks!

My hand surgeon was the best....really mashed some bone and predicted arthritis in my future. 25 years later, I have full use of both hands and no arthritis after 3 separate events and surgeries. No hardware (good thing too given I’ve been a repeat customer).
I ride a Peloton these days but am looking to do some riding this summer. My calves were born to pedal...

jono, depends how mad it is. I had it about 5 years ago and got one of those rockers to stretch the calf all the way down - that seemed to be the best thing to help it along with rest. ...Link
